🔎 Equipment Spotlight: Our In-House CT Scanner

Advanced diagnostics can make all the difference when a pet is sick or injured. That's why we're proud to have an in-house CT (Computed Tomography) scanner available for our patients when more detailed imaging is needed.

A CT scan uses a series of X-ray images combined by a computer to create detailed cross-sectional views of the body. This allows veterinarians to see structures in far greater detail than a traditional x-ray alone.

CT scans can be especially helpful for evaluating:
🐾 Complex fractures and orthopedic injuries
🐾 Nasal disease and chronic respiratory issues
🐾 Internal masses and tumors
🐾 Neurological conditions
🐾 Trauma patients
🐾 Surgical planning

While X-rays provide valuable information, they create a single flat image. CT imaging allows us to view the body in multiple slices and dimensions, helping identify abnormalities that may not be visible on standard radiographs.

Having this technology available in-house means faster diagnostics, quicker treatment decisions and enhanced care for our patients when every moment counts.

✨Patient Spotlight✨ Meet Milo 🤍🐾

This handsome, chatty boy came to our ER department after his family noticed he was urinating frequently and had blood in his urine.

After examining a urine sample under a microscope, our doctor identified a large number of white blood cells and bacteria, indicating that Milo's body was fighting a urinary tract infection. With prompt treatment, he was able to get the care he needed.

While Milo's symptoms were caused by an infection, it's important to know that urinary issues—especially in male cats—aren't always simple urinary tract infections. They can also be a sign of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) or a urinary blockage, which can become life-threatening quickly if left untreated.

🚨Seek veterinary care immediately if your cat is:
- Straining to urinate
- Making frequent trips to the litterbox with little or no urine produced
- Crying while trying to urinate
- Passing blood in their urine
- Urinating outside of the litterbox
- Becoming lethargic, vomiting or hiding

When it comes to urinary issues, it's always better to err on the side of caution. Early intervention can save lives.

Outside of his hospital visit, Milo is a leash-trained adventurer who loves going on walks and chatting with everyone he meets! 🐱❤️

We were thrilled to receive an update from Milo's family letting us know that he responded well to treatment, is no longer experiencing any symptoms, and is doing great at home. We are so happy he is back to feeling like himself!

When is limping an emergency? 🐾

Not every limp is minor. While some cases may be caused by a simple strain, others can signal a serious injury or medical condition that requires immediate veterinary attention.

Limping should be treated as an emergency if you notice:
- Sudden inability to bear weight on a limb
- Obvious swelling, deformity or an abnormal angle to the leg
- Crying out, severe pain or aggression when the area is touched
- Suspected trauma, such as a fall, being hit by a car, or a rough play injury
- A limb that feels unusually hot or cold, or looks significantly different from the others
- A limp that rapidly worsens or shows no improvement over a short period of time

If your pet is limping and seems painful or unable to use the affected leg, don't wait to have them assessed. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent further injury and improve recovery.

When in doubt, it's always safest to have your pet examined. 🐶🐱

Today serves as a great reminder to include your pets in your emergency preparedness plan. Simple steps taken now can make a big difference during an emergency.

✔️ Keep collars, ID tags and microchip information up to date
✔️ Place pet alert window stickers where first responders can easily see them
✔️ Keep leashes, carriers and essential supplies in an accessible location
✔️ Store vaccination records and important medical information where they can be quickly retrieved
✔️ Designate a family member to help evacuate pets whenever possible

Remember, pets often hide when frightened, making emergency situations even more challenging. Having a plan in place before an emergency occurs can help keep every member of your family safe. 🧡

✨Patient Spotlight✨ Meet Bandit 🤎🐾

Sweet Bandit, a 5-year-old boxer, came into our hospital after developing sudden facial swelling. Because Bandit has a history of multiple allergies, our team quickly assessed him and administered an antihistamine injection while closely monitoring his condition.

Thankfully, his swelling improved with treatment, and after continued observation, Bandit was comfortable enough to return home to recover with his family. ❤️

While Bandit's case has a happy ending, facial swelling should never be ignored. Allergic reactions from insect bites, medications, vaccines, foods or environmental allergens can cause swelling of the face and muzzle, and in some cases can progress rapidly to involve the airway.

If you notice sudden facial swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, vomiting, collapse, or your pet seems distressed, give us a call immediately. Even mild swelling can worsen unexpectedly, and prompt treatment can make all the difference.

We're so happy Bandit is back to feeling like himself and grateful we could help this handsome boy! 🐶🐾
