🚨ADOPTION OPPORTUNITY🚨

Dougie is a 14 year old Maltese/Shih Tzu whose owner is not longer able to keep him.  He would love a home where someone is home and has access to a small backyard, but as long as he gets outside for some walks, he’d be happy.  He loves walks and has a great sniffer.  Dougie is very well behaved, only barks for the doorbell and is otherwise a very well behaved companion.

We’re on the hunt for dog toy donations! With so many pups in our care right now, we’re flying through toys. We’re specifically looking for soft plush toys or super tough ones built for big chewers.

Got a stash of stuffed animals your kids don’t use anymore? We’ll gladly take them, just make sure they don’t have beaded eyes. We also aren’t able to accept tennis balls. 🚫🥎

No toys to spare? No problem! You can still help by sending something from our Amazon wishlist, it’s quick and easy. https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/2FHSCMPC812CW/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1

Donations can be dropped off at 3150 Napier Lane, Victoria, BC Tuesday through Sunday 12pm - 4pm. Thanks so much everyone, our pups will be so grateful. 🐶

PSA! ☀️ 🐕 🥵 As the days get warmer, we just want to make sure everyone is being self aware of NOT leaving their dogs in hot cars. Sometimes because it’s only April, and we still get some rainy days and cooler days, some people think that it can’t be risky to leave your dog in the car when it’s sunny out. On days like today, 18-22 degrees depending on location, a dog could definitely get sick, heat stroke, brain damage, and even death, being left in a hot car. Especially for dogs with breathing issues, heart issues, senior dogs, etc.

Bad things can happen fast, so please be aware of what it truly takes to keep your dog safe. Leave them at home, and if you can’t leave them at home, please have someone stay in the car with your dog with the AC on, properly roll your windows down, and we don’t mean just one inch down. That does absolutely nothing to keep your car cool enough to leave your dog inside. Please bring lots of cool water, cooling bandanas or cooling shirts, etc. Some cars have cooling options for dogs, but please still be very aware and careful with these possibly failing.

There should be no excuses for why one cannot property do this. If you are someone that wants to be ignorant, don’t act like a victim when you get called out in person, online, with the authorities, and criminal charges for animal abuse. You deserve every bit of it. Ways to avoid this, just don’t be a du***ss. How about that? Crazy concept, we know.

Learn, be better, do better. For god sake, this is about your dogs well being and life we are talking about. You wouldn’t leave your kids or grandparents in a hot car, so why would you leave any living being in there like that? NO EXCUSES!
No more sick or dead dogs from being left in cars.

Now get out there and have fun with your dogs!

Thank you for your time. We appreciate you! ♥️🐾

UPDATE: Thank you for liking and sharing his post! We are no longer accepting applications for him.

Hi my name is Joey. I am a Papillon cross with a Dachshund. I am 9 years old and weigh approximately 10 pounds. My mom is currently in hospital, and she is unable to continue caring for me.

I’ve had a horrendous life until my mom adopted me 2 years ago. I was taken from a puppy mill where I basically lived in a closet with another puppy for 7 years.

I’m in an extremely vulnerable situation. I experienced severe trauma and now I am fearful and sensitive. I need to be with someone who is calm, kind and loving. No yelling allowed! Due to this situation I have not been acclimatized to the outside. I currently am only P*e Pad trained. I need the right person to calmly train me to go out. I’m good in the car, actually love the car rides. Once I am comfortable with you I will come on the sofa and sit beside you. My protection is my kennel and other bed. I go from one to the other. I’m very agile so would be good doing some stairs but not too many.

I am very well behaved when at the vets. I will be getting my vaccinations done in a few days so will be up to date. I love being groomed within my home environment and don’t mind having my nails cut. I am easy to manage.

I need an experienced owner to understand me and work with me. I am quiet, very sweet and once I am with you, we could be best of friends. I have no aggression, nor do I bark. I just underwent major dental work and still have a few teeth left. I need a soft diet and have healed well. I have no other health issues.

The perfect home for me would be someone who is retired and home most of the time. I miss my closet buddy, so a home with a small, calm, friendly dog might be good for me. But no children or cats. I need special attention and training to feel happy to go outside and have a walk once I feel comfortable.

On a recent walk through Vancouver’s Pacific Spirit Park, animal lovers Terry Sparrow and Krista Brisk found something that made their hearts drop. While throwing his gum away, Sparrow noticed a figure moving inside the trash can. At first, he assumed it was a squirrel or a raccoon. But then, Spar...
