We are a small Urban farm on Vancouver Island with chickens, quail, rabbits and a large garden. Also a couple free-range children.

Welsummer X chicks available after the 15th. Straight run
Not sure how many as they haven't hatched yet, but would like to send them to their new homes asap when they come home from the school.

🔒 Lockdown for these little ones!
It's our first quail hatch this year and I'm not sure what to expect yet. 🐥
Candling quail eggs is not as clear as chicken eggs so it's a bit of a mystery every time! 🐣
Any predictions?

*I arranged them this way because I'm quite sure none on the left will hatch.
The blue and speckled ones on the right looked promising.*

(The blue celadon eggs are just the dividing line between the speckled eggs so I can see if my assumption is correct)

I wasn't sure if my life was busy enough yet...

So figured I should do a "mental capacity" test by attempting to hatch a bunch of quail again! 🐥

The auto-turning tray didn't fit the amount I wanted, so I threw them all in anyway because why not.
Now I just have to manually turn those eggs daily too.

Anyone else have this issue? Is there a name for this? 🤪

Spring is underway 🌱

Our tomato, cucumber, and squash seedlings are off to a great start, and we’re getting excited for everything this season will bring! 🌿
They're tiny plants now, but full of potential for a backyard full of fresh food and long summer days ☀️ ❤️

This is exactly why I love having them around… endless entertainment and a whole lot of personality 💛

🧄 🌱 Raspberry canes and Red Russian Garlic starts available now for immediate planting!

The raspberries are heavy producers and you should get some berries this year. We've got plenty of canes available. All bare root and best to plant in containers or their own beds 🪏

🧄 The garlic didn't make it into our garden (though 700 others did) but these decided to sprout anyways and are eager to grow!

$1 each cane/clove

Our rainbow eggs are available as well 🥚
The girls are just starting to pick up for the year and we've got some ready to go now. PM for pricing

Once upon a time I couldn't grow rosemary to save my life. I should learn to care less.

They love neglect and to not be loved, so luckily life has been busy and now it's a thriving neglected MONSTER that's taking over this whole corner of the garden and encroaching on literally everything inside and outside the garden bed.

We already cook with it tons and yet we still have this "problem".

Now what to do with it all... Other than just cutting and composting of course.

It smells AMAZING so I've already got it in my Christmas arrangements outside the front door 🎄
