Oh hi!
I'm so bad at posting here, but I just got a notification that a TON of people have been looking at this page recently, so I figured I should probably update.
Astra - now GCh Phenomenal Phantasy of Astraea VN* S* RATI RATN IBAR IBRH NBRH NTD NTD-M UL-I - is now 18 months. She is having the BEST TIME doing ALL THE SPORTS, but will be back in the show ring soon for the two dachshund specialties coming up. We are excited to see how she does at the Nationals especially! Our plan for the rest of the year after that is to keep trying new things, she especially likes any scenting so we will probably dig deeper there, and work on getting higher versatility titles before we (hopefully) have her first litter next winter.
Tony - now Ch Innocence Pro Skater Tiger Entchen VA* CA* AS* RATI RATO IBAR ITD NTD-M - is 2 years old. He is loving all the sporty stuff, the more running the better for this guy! He will also be popping into the specialties this month, and then our focus will be to continue trick and obedience training - he loves working with his mama!!!

So proud of our new GRAND CHAMPION Phenomenal Phantasy of Astraea NTD-M RATN (Astra). At her first weekend out after turning 1 (aka her first weekend eligible for her Grand Championship), she picked up a Group 4 and a few select placements to achieve her Grand Championship at just 14 months!
So proud of this little girl, and excited to now spend the summer playing lots of sports with her and our boys!

I am so bad at remembering to post here, but please enjoy our recap of 2023!

January - we moved from Vancouver to Saskatchewan, which was a huge change for both us and the dogs.
February - Tony and I survived a rollover car accident. We managed to get into the ring and get him his second point toward his Championship.
March - I flew back to Vancouver and drove up to Forest Grove to pick up Astra!
April - Tony got his RATN at our first BH trial of the new year, and then I headed out on a solo road trip to show Astra in her first Baby Puppy show in Vancouver with her siblings! Definitely not a trip I would do solo again... Tony ran his second full-weekend BH trial at the end of the month, and absolutely KILLED IT in the Open class - he only took 2 NQs in Open, and picked up a couple HIC that weekend as well.
May - Tony took 2 more points in the Hub City show. Astra also showed in BP again, taking 3x BBPIG. Most incredibly, she won BEST IN SWEEPS that weekend, beating almost 50 other dogs, from 4-18 months. She was one of the youngest there, at not even 5 months. Tony ran in his first Sprinter trial this month, and we quickly learned that this is one of his absolute favourite things. He got his Novice Sprinter, averaging 52 points (26 km/h) per run.
June - Astra took 6 championship points the weekend after she turned 6 months, and Tony took another point that weekend as well. The weekend after that, Tony took another 3 points (bringing him to 8 with a major) and Astra took 3 as well (9 with a major). It was so stressful being so close to finishing them both!
July - My mom and Toby came and visited this month, and Jamie and I went on a road trip down to Yellowstone!
August - After our month off from dog stuff, August was full force. I took both Tony and Astra to the Alberta Kennel Club show, where we got to see our friends from Vancouver! Tony got to try Earthdog for the first time in almost a year, and it took him a minute to get the rules again - especially with the jump to Junior. He loved it though, and it gave him the confidence to take a 3-point major that weekend, finishing his Championship with a bang! Astra wasn't far behind, taking another 2-pointer to finish 2 weeks later, and took a 2-pointer select placement that weekend as well. We threw another Sprinter weekend in there, getting Tony his Sprinter title, and recorded his tricks for Novice and Novice Masters trick dog as well. This all qualified him for his Versatility Novice.
September - Jonah came and visited at the beginning of the month. Astra got her first Group placement at the HOTC show, a group 3 in a beautiful lineup. She has achieved a lot of BPIG, but a G3 against much more mature dogs was a real honour.
October - Astra started BH in October, getting her Instinct and Novice.
November - Both Astra and Kingston got their Novice and Novice Masters trick dog titles. Kingston also has his Intermediate tricks recorded, but we are waiting to submit them until we have his Intermediate Masters as well. Astra competed in her final show of the year (and her last show as a puppy), taking 9 more GCh points (1 point select, 2 point BOB, and 2x 3 point BOB).
December - We ran in one last BH trial for the year, and while none of our dogs did anything special on the surface, it was a great weekend for all of them in personal growth. This was Kingston's first time doing a dog sport with other dogs around, and while there's still work to do, I'm happy he was able to handle the blind for the most part.

Stay tuned for 2024 news! Our spring is going to not be very eventful, as I finish up my Masters and start my new job, but we're excited about the summer and beyond!!!

Astra picked up her first "real" title behind her name this weekend - getting her RATN!
She really enjoys Barn Hunt (you should hear her whining to go in while we wait in the blind!) and is very good at the game. She methodically searches the ring, and even at the novice level, is making sure she clears all the rats before we are done! Her indications are very clear, pawing and biting at the tube, but she does let it get taken away and will redirect quickly. She even loves the tunnel, and chose to do an open tunnel in the novice ring!
I am excited to move her up to Open at the next trial, and try Earthdog again next summer.

Updates!

Astra, Ch Phenomenal Phantasy of Astraea RATI, is now 10 months old. She got her Championship right after my last post, and is now 1/4 of the way to her GCh as well. She has been doing incredible in the show ring lately, and we are looking forward to Wheat City in November. She got her first group placement (G3) along with 4x puppy group at the new Heart of the Continent show last month. She also received great feedback from a panel of very dachshund-savvy judges.
Astra made her sports debut at Earthdog in August, and just had a great day at Barn Hunt yesterday. She got her RATI on the first try, never having seen/smelled a rat before. She also got a Q towards novice, and showed great promise all in all.
This winter, we hope to keep working toward her GCh, hopefully get another group placement or two, and start getting more titles behind her name as well! RATN looks to be in the near future, and we are working on CGN and NTD at home. We are also starting some scentwork training and hope to trial as soon as she's ready.
In the new year (after her first birthday), our priority is getting her health testing completed. If she passes, we will start planning our potential breeding pairs with her. Please contact us if you are interested in getting on our wait list.

Tony, Ch Innocence Pro Skater Tiger Entchen S VN RATO NTD-M XVA, is 20 months old. He has not shown since August, and will likely not show very much in the future. He is loving his show-retirement, and getting the chance to play more sports instead!
Tony is loving all the sports currently - Earthdog, Barn Hunt, Trick Dog, and Sprinters are all ongoing efforts. He got a little tired of Barn Hunt back in the spring but he seems to be enjoying it again so we are hopeful for his RATS this fall. Earthdog is the most fun for both of us - he is doing great at navigating the tunnel and working the rats, but the 10 feet between the release and the tunnel entrance is the bane of our existence. He is consistently going above and beyond in his IQ runs, so we are hopeful that the next time we run in JE he will get his Qs. Sprinters are done for the year, but we are so excited to keep going and hopefully get his advanced and excellent titles next year. He consistently runs at 26 km/h, which is a great pace for such a little guy. We are also hoping to start Chase Ability (300m lure chasing), which we predict he will excel at based on his love of the lure.
This winter, we are continuing to work on tricks, hoping to get his ITD & ITD-M soon. Along with Astra, we are also working on Tony's CGN and scentwork. We have been a little lazy getting his health testing done as we have no breeding plans for him, but we are planning on getting his testing done this winter for our own peace of mind.

Haven't updated here in a while!
I'll start with Astra:
Phenomenal Phantasy of Astraea is now 8 months and looking good, feeling better! She is sitting at 9 points toward her Canadian Championship after only 2.5 weekends of showing. We are working on firming up a few last tricks and then should be getting her Novice Trick title soon. We are slowly building up a drive so she can compete at Earthdog and Barn Hunt with Tony as well! Her next show is in Winnipeg next weekend, where she is entered Saturday and Sunday only.

Happy 6 month "birthday" to Astra and her littermates! 6 months marks the transition from "baby" to "junior" puppy in the dog world, or when dogs can start entering shows for real points (and can start doing fun things like barn hunt too!). Astra's first show as a "big girl" is next weekend, and we could not be more excited!

Look at the baby! Astra is now 5.5 months old, and is 3 weeks away from entering her first "official" show as a junior puppy. Her behaviour & training has really stepped up in the past few weeks thanks to the warmer weather allowing her to be outside more + training classes from the wonderful Kelsey Kaban !!! Really looking forward to seeing her use her "walking feet" instead of trying to sprint around the ring like a maniac.
