The drylot has been cleared and the metal debris has been taken to recycling. Now we are working on rolling the magnet and prepping for gravel delivery 🤗 I need gutters on the barn, anyone in the Cowichan Valley able to install gutters? This will allow for the collection of rainwater for the horses during the wet season.

The drylot/paddocks around the barn is coming along! A bunch of the debris was removed this weekend so almost time to start running the magnet and prepping for gravel delivery 🤗

I bought 96 compressed bales of beautiful Alberta low sugar Teff hay for the mules and Walter! Also lots of things happening at the new sanctuary in Crofton this weekend continuing to prep it for the big move. If anybody’s around this weekend and wants to help, I sure could use some volunteers. If you’re looking for a place to walk your dog maybe I could get you to drag the magnet around to look for sharps? I’m also going to continue digging out the stalls and the alleyway. I have to continue working on the tack room/feed room and pull out the roof and decide whether I’m going to use plywood or something else to box it in. Dump run, collect all the scrap metal and take it in. Prune the fence line staple wire. The list goes on lol 😅😭😵‍💫

Rosey and Rupert ❤️ Rosey was consigned to the Feb 2025 Dawson Creek auction heavily pregnant with Rupert. She was bought by the meat buyer and because she was fighting for her life and striking out at everyone he decided he didn’t want her. Even the auction staff said horses like that SHOULD go for meat. Can you imagine being dumped for meat by your breeder and then the meat buyer doesn’t even want you? Luckily he agreed to sell her back to me, and transferred her to my name in the office right after the sale. Her and Billie were moved into a pen together at the auction where they no doubt trauma bonded. I’m working as hard as I can to get their paddock and shelter cleaned up at the new sanctuary! Thanks for helping again today 🤗

Well some good news! Earlier this week, I contacted the CFIA about the Dawson Creek Auction today and they told me they were sending staff down for both Friday night and Saturday for the sale. I’m not sure if any were seized yet.
While some people might claim that VJV are not responsible when horses like this are dropped off and pushed through… but Remember Billie was consigned by a working staff member that day, who thought this was acceptable. Billie’s case is still being investigated by the College of BC Veterinarians because of the Dawson Creek vet who cleared her for the sale that day. The CFIA vet confirmed with me that she was NOT fit for the sale or hauling.
Time for some accountability and justice to be served and to bring the hammer down on these disgusting backyard breeders!

I will be able to throw hay from the hayloft directly into the stalls 🤩 and they can socialize between stalls. They want to be able to see their herd mates.  I can just picture them all standing in here, staring out at the Orchard during a rain storm. I’ll do a little video tour once it’s finished.
