🎥 Rare footage captured by Passionate Paws Wildlife Documentary Team.

📍 Central Alberta Wetlands, Early Summer 2026

Here we observe the elusive Water Frenchie (Hippo frenchicus), in its natural habitat. A rare aquatic subspecies known for its remarkable ability to disappear beneath the surface while still somehow judging everyone around it.

Notice how the majestic creature has submerged itself almost entirely beneath the water's surface, unlike it's land dwelling relatives, leaving only its eyes exposed as it patiently surveys the area for snacks, poor decisions & unattended food.

Researchers remain baffled by this specimen's evolutionary strategy, but agree that this one they have decided to call Gretta, appears to be living her best life.

Despite its incredibly intimidating appearance, the Water Frenchie is largely harmless. Unless you possess treats. Then all bets are off.

For centuries, experts believed the Water Frenchie were native only to Africa. They were wrong.

Some apparently live in Central Alberta.

🐾 Red Deer Pack Walk 🐾

One of the things I love most about our Pack Walks is that they aren't just a walk around the block.

Sure, the dogs get exercise. But more importantly, they get practice.

Practice existing around other dogs without feeling like they need to meet everyone. Practice focusing on their handler in a distracting environment. Practice working through excitement, uncertainty, new sights, sounds, smells, bicycles, squirrels, people & whatever else the world decides to throw at us that day 😅

You'll also notice a clip from our group exercises. These are designed to challenge both dogs & handlers in a supportive environment while building confidence, engagement, impulse control, & real-world skills.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is helping dogs learn how to be part of the world without feeling like they need to react to everything in it.

My favorite part? Watching a group of dogs that all started in different places come together, settle in & work as a team never gets old for me 🖤

Thank you to everyone who came out & put in the work with your dogs. We love watching the progress happen one walk at a time 🐾

🗓 Next Pack Walk:
Lacombe | Wednesday | June 3 | 6:00 - 7:00pm | Lacombe Memorial Centre Parking Lot | $15

Not every training session is about commands. Sometimes it's about helping a dog learn the world isn't quite so scary 🖤

This sweet Rottie/Shepherd cross joined us for an exposure session recently, & while there weren't any fancy obedience drills involved, there was still a lot of learning happening.

Exposure isn't about forcing dogs into overwhelming situations or throwing them into the deep end. It's about giving them opportunities to experience new environments, sights, sounds, smells, people, & distractions in a way they can successfully process.

Every calm observation.
Every moment of curiosity.
Every time a dog chooses to investigate instead of avoid.
Every recovery after being unsure.

Those are all wins.

Confidence isn't something we can teach with a command. It's built through experiences, guidance, repetition, & helping dogs learn they are capable of navigating the world around them.

The end goal isn't a dog that has seen everything. It's a dog that has developed the coping skills to handle whatever life throws at them ❤️

☀️🐾 SUMMER DOG VIBES CHECK 🐾☀️

The snow is gone.

The sun is out.

Mosquito season has come crawling back from the depths of hell.

& dogs across Alberta are preparing for another summer of making questionable life choices 😂 🤦‍♀️

You know the ones...

🌊 Drinking half the lake while swimming
🐿️ Chasing squirrels with zero regard for energy conservation
🦆 Trying to befriend wildlife
🕳️ Digging holes for absolutely no reason
💩 Sampling things they definitely shouldn't be sampling
☀️ Laying directly in the hottest spot of the yard, then acting offended by the temperature.

(& yes...many of those are things we can absolutely work on from a training standpoint. Being trainers, we'd be remiss if we didn't point that out 😆)

So I'm curious...

What are your dog's summer essentials?

💧 Cooling vests? 🦟 Mosquito spray? 🕷️ Tick prevention? 🥤 Travel water bowls? 🚤 Life jackets? 🍖 Frozen enrichment? 🏖️ Kiddie pools? 🌲 Favourite hiking gear? 🐾 Paw protection?

Or maybe your dog has a completely different summer obsession. Like just laying in front of the air conditioner or fan 🤣

⚠️ While We're Here...

Summer can be a blast for our dogs, but excitement often overrides common sense. Many dogs will happily keep swimming, hiking, running & playing long after they've become tired.

Hydration, shade, rest breaks & paying attention to your dog's energy levels go a long way toward keeping summer adventures safe & enjoyable.

Now For The Fun Part!

👇 What is your dog's favourite thing about summer?

👇 What summer product has been worth every penny?

👇 What's on your dog's summer bucket list this year?

📸 Bonus points for photos!
Show us the beach dogs, hiking dogs, camping dogs, dock diving dogs, mud loving dogs, sprinkler dogs & sunbathing weirdos.

Let's see what everyone is getting up to this summer & help each other survive mosquito season, tick season & Alberta summer together 😂🐾☀️🖤🌊

(And if your dog's summer bucket list includes making better decisions around squirrels, wildlife, recall or impulse control... well, we can help with that too 😉)

🐾 RED DEER PACK WALK TONIGHT 🐾

Mackenzie Trails tonight from 6:00-7:00pm 🌲🐕

A peaceful evening walk with your dog they said…

Meanwhile your dog:
👀 “IS THAT A GOOSE?”
👀 “OH MY GOD A BIKE!”
👀 “I would also like to personally sniff every single blade of grass in Red Deer.”

& honestly…that’s exactly why these walks are so valuable 😂

Pack Walks are about working through real world distractions in a structured, supportive environment. Dogs learn how to slow down, stay more connected to their handler, make better choices around excitement & build confidence out in the world instead of only inside a training building 🖤

Just good people, good dogs & lots of practice 🐾

📍 Mackenzie Trails - Red Deer
⏰ 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Come join us for some training disguised as a casual walk through the woods 😎🌲

🐾✂️ NAIL TRIMS THIS SATURDAY ✂️🐾

Madison & I will be doing drop in nail trims at Passionate Paws in Lacombe this Saturday, May 30th from 11:00am - 3:00pm. $20 per dog 🐶

This clip was taken during our Charity Nails event at Bone & Biscuit this past weekend. Huge thank you to them for having us out & helping support such a fun event 🖤 Adrienne is at Bone & Biscuit once a month doing Charity Nails & it’s honestly something we really look forward to each month supporting a great cause.

Nail trims can be hard for a lot of dogs. Sometimes it’s fear, lack of confidence, handling sensitivities, restraint pressure or simply not knowing how to cope in that moment. Having trainers doing the trims allows us to slow things down when needed, read the dog properly, adjust how we handle them & help support them through it instead of just fighting through the experience.

Come see us Saturday! ✂️😁

♡ ASSESSMENTS ♡

One thing we really try to emphasize is that Assessments are not about judgement or expecting you to have everything figured out already. They’re simply a starting point.

Our Assessments are 30-40 minutes & cost $75. During that time, one of our trainers will meet with you & your dog, listen to what’s going on, discuss your goals, assess the situation in front of us & help build a realistic plan that fits both your lifestyle & your dog’s individual needs.

A lot of behavioural struggles are not just about “obedience". Many dogs are lacking confidence, coping skills, impulse control, structure, clarity or appropriate outlets. Especially with puppies & adolescent dogs, what people often see as “bad behaviour” is frequently an overwhelmed dog who doesn’t yet know how to properly regulate excitement, frustration or emotions in different environments.

That’s why we look at the full picture - the dog, the home life, routines, exercise, mental stimulation, boundaries, communication & what realistic progress looks like for that specific team.

Not every dog needs the same approach & not every owner needs the same level of support, which is exactly why Assessments can be so valuable. Sometimes people leave needing a few simple changes at home. Sometimes we recommend private lessons, Day Trains, Structured Daycare, exposure work or confidence building exercises. It really depends on the dog in front of us.

Meet Bear!

Bear is a 5 month old Rottie/Shepherd/Dalmatian mix who came in for an Assessment earlier this month 💛

Here’s Bear doing a little tug with Madison & searching for treats in the snuffle pool today 🖤 For growing puppies especially, enrichment, problem solving & engagement exercises like this can make a huge difference. Learning how to use their brain in healthy ways, work through frustration, stay engaged with people & channel energy appropriately are all important pieces of development.

➡️ To book an Assessment, please text or call 403-741-4153.

➡️ TONIGHT’s Enrichment Hour is bringing out the splash zone 💦🐾

Chase has a water activity or 2 planned tonight, including a treat bobbing pool mixed with ball pit balls for the dogs to search through, problem solve & explore 🐾 💦

Enrichment isn’t just about tiring dogs out physically. It’s about learning how to problem solve, work through excitement, try new things & build confidence in different environments.

Bring treats & get ready for a fun night with your dog 🖤

⏰ 6:30 - 7:30pm

🐾🐀 This morning’s Barn Hunt Intro was SO much fun! 🐀 🐾

Tiny dogs, big dogs, confident dogs, “what the heck is happening?” dogs…everyone gave it a shot & it was awesome watching them work through it 👏

Some dogs hit the ring like seasoned professionals. Others spent a solid 5 business days investigating the straw before deciding they could continue 🤣

So many great moments this morning & lots of tired, happy dogs by the end of it 🖤

Huge thank you to , so grateful we have something like this so local 🙏
