Our Story

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve had a fascination with dogs; training them, feeding them, grooming them. I was born a dog person! I was in university completing my Bachelor of Nursing, and living alone for the first time when I decided I’d feel more comfortable if I had a dog to share my apartment with. I went home the following summer and in late August my Golden Retriever pup, Jax, arrived.

A short while after Jax’s arrival I made the decision not to return to Nursing school; it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I was doing courses online while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life when I came across the Professional Pet Groomer program at Keyin College. I was very intrigued by the course so I got in contact with Jax’s groomer and she invited me to her shop to shadow her for a day. It was love at first groom! I applied to do the course and was accepted! I moved to Carbonear, Newfoundland that fall and completed my course.

Hair of the Dog was born in January of 2016 in Labrador City, NL and I’ve been up to my eyeballs in dog hair ever since! Since opening my business I have met hundreds of furry friends and their owners, I’ve worked along side, and met a number of wonderful groomers, I’ve flown to Calgary, Alberta, to attend seminars at Mastergroom Canada, and I’ve opened a salon and boutique in the Bruno Plaza!

To say I love what I do for a living is an understatement and I am so beyond lucky to get to do what I love every day!
