Meet Sparky!

I acquired him a few weeks back with terribly neglected hooves (see last picture). Since then, I've gotten him trimmed to the point where he moves well, he's just gotta grow in new hoof.

He's friendly and walks up to the fence for human interaction. I've sat my 2 year old on him ba****ck a couple of times. He's a great weight and oh so cute, what's not to love!

I'm not sure of his age, mostly because I keep forgetting to check his teeth. Sparky's previous neighbor said 7 or 8. I have not confirmed this though. He is a gelding.

He currently resides near Pansy, MB. He needs to move as I'm not at a place in life to keep him. 7️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ obo

Please message through messenger or WhatsApp (431-205-5103) to inquire further as I have wifi but ZERO CELL SERVICE.

Working on training the lead change. I will say they have been a bit of a sore spot for me, like a character building exercise. I admit it is easy for frustration to creep into my training, I want results I am not yet getting, I feel impatient and I don't understand what I'm missing. There's a good chance that if Icy was being trained by someone else, he'd already have his lead changes down, and that thought is humbling. It helps me to realize that I am learning just as much as he is, and I need to be patient and give grace to the both of us. So here we are, half a stride off of a clean change. I love that he's staying relaxed, he was sensitive to my leg and hand and switched willingly when asked. I don't want new skills to be stressful so in this regard, we're already winning.

I've experienced plenty of days where I've felt like I should give up horses because I tend to struggle with a lot of fear when undesirable behaviours present themselves and I'm not your "just ride it out" kinda girlie. Why am I even a horse trainer, right? But let me tell you, it's an addiction I can't escape. It's a love I can't explain, and training horses is a passion that can't be tamed! Here's my theory, I don't believe undesirable behaviours would show up if your foundation was on point.
*Icy here has made it clear to me that our foundation is cracked at best. Can I ride him? Yeah, he's been under saddle for a couple years now and we've done some cool things. But why should I work around and adapt to dysfunction, when I can repair it? He'll only be better for it and a more enjoyable gentleman. Within the past number of months I've been going through a rebirth of sorts when it comes to training horses and how I interact with them. I felt like I was missing something, like there had to be a better way to achieve the same goals. I am learning some new things so we're going back to the start with a new awareness. My eyes are seeing things now they didn't think twice about before. I am responding to the communication my horse is giving me. There is safety in feeling seen, heard and understood, even if you can't have your way. So here we are, practicing a skill. If we can't do something as simple as standing still and coming when called, why would we move on to anything more complex?
