Courtesy Post, Meet Mango – The Sweet Survivor Looking for Her Forever Home!
Reason for rehoming:
Mango didn’t have the easiest start in life, but today she’s living proof that second chances are magical! Rescued in early November from the streets of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Mango was timid, scared, and struggling just to survive. She likely battled fleas and mange, scratching and biting herself constantly.
Fast forward to now: Mango has blossomed into a happy, healthy pup thanks to lots of love and care!
• She was treated immediately with Bravecto, and her itching is gone.
• She’s been spayed, dewormed, and is on antibiotics to ensure she’s in tip-top shape.
• She’s getting nutritious food and supplements to boost her blood platelets and restore her beautiful coat.
• Vaccinations are underway in compliance with Canadian travel regulations.
And about that “dog lottery”? Mango hit the jackpot! She’s now living with her foster family in a beachfront condo, waiting for the day she can fly to Canada and meet her forever family.
What’s Mango like?
• She’s a total lovebug—think Velcro dog! She follows her foster mom everywhere and loves snuggles.
• She’s crate-trained and enjoys her Kong when her humans step out.
• She gets along great with her Cocker Spaniel foster brother and happily shares toys.
• Fully house-trained and goes outside 4 times a day, plus one long beach walk!
• Still a puppy at heart, so she’s learning not to “mouth” and loves playtime.
Mango doesn’t need a big yard—just a family who can spend time with her. She’d thrive in a condo or home where she’s not crated for long hours. She’s sensitive and responds best to kindness and positive reinforcement (harshness makes her cower).
She rarely barks unless triggered (like a knock at the door) and may whimper a little in her crate at first, so good insulation is helpful in apartments.
Ideal Home:
• Someone patient with puppy behaviors.
• A loving family who’s home often—she bonds quickly and loves company.
• Willing to give her time to adjust and trust.
Mango has so much love to give. She’s ready for a fresh start with a family who will cherish her as much as she’ll cherish them.

Now about this sweet angel…..
DOB: Approximately January 15, 2025 (veterinarian’s estimate)
Acquired: At 10 months, in November 2025, from the street.
Breed: Coconut Hound, Dominican Republic breed, 30 lbs.
Color: Tan with white spotting.
Is she good with other dogs? Overall- Yes. Mango currently lives amicably with a Cocker Spaniel and is good when she meets other dogs on the beach. She has a docile personality and will sometimes roll over and show her belly when meeting new dog friends or if scared.
Is she good with cats? Not sure. She is curious about 2 cats that live in the building so could likely be acclimatized.
Is she good with young children? Not evaluated. She does mouth, which is being worked on, so perhaps she cannot be fully trusted yet. Adults can play with toys, with their face next to her muzzle, easily take toys away, etc.
Vaccinated: Will be done before travelling to Canada

Training: Ongoing. She now walks well on a leash; but has not been taught commands yet. She is learning not to jump up or to smell food on cupboards. During human mealtimes, she curls up on the floor by the table and does not beg.
Crate training: Yes, she sleeps each night at the bedside in her crate with padding and a dog bed. She is also crated when humans are not at home and appreciates having her Kong as a treat to chew on with frozen dog food inside.
