Feeling bummed about postponing our Kitchener May 3rd course: Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid, however in these uncertain times just hope our community maintains its health as best as possible.

Postponed date will be posted when business in our area resumes normal operation.

Our fur-friends need first aid too! Join a course through to learn how to go from "help" to "good job"! Even minor cuts can bleed like crazy! Participants learn how to wrap multiple different wounds in our hands-on course (no blood involved).

Show us your puppy pearly whites 😁!

Oral hygiene for our pets is often an area that falls off the radar.

Prevention of dental disease and oral infection is another way to keep your furry loved ones in good health. Couple this with regular vet visits and you are off to a great start!

Signs of dental issues include: chewing on one side, not eating hard food, drooling, foul odour from the mouth. Notice any of these and schedule that vet visit!

Sal shows us her dental routine with toothbrush and finger brush. Using a veterinarian approved toothpaste in tasty chicken flavour!

Mouth ties!

I often get questioned when people are looking through pet first aid pictures "what is going on here?". Without any context it can look inappropriate; whereas, when you get all the info you realise it is one of the most useful skills we teach in pet first aid.

A mouth tie can be applied as a safety guard to protect the first aider when handling injured and stressed pets. When applied correctly it not only provides a safety barrier for the first aider but a distraction to the injured animal. Mouth ties are much more versatile than commercial muzzles and may be constructed out of materials you most likely have access to while dealing with an emergency.

Grief although a natural feeling and response to loss, is not an emotional state that we typically live in day to day. It is a collage of emotions that hits suddenly, even when we feel we have prepared ourselves for loss. Grief is personal and we all feel loss on many different levels. It is an uncomfortable state to be in and can become overwhelming and all consuming of everyday life and thought pattern.

Mended Mutts pet bereavement is a resource for pet professionals and pet parents to assist as you move through your phases of grief.

My losses have guided me and as I learn and grow from each loss I have come across a phrase that has profoundly struck a chord with me...
