The heatwave continues with a high of 35 degrees today, feeling more like 45 with the humidity! Whether or not you are a customer, all dogs (and other pets you may have out with you!) are welcome to come in and cool down at our hydration station! Staying well hydrated will help prevent overheating which could lead to heatstroke.

Do you know the signs of heatstroke in dogs? Early signs include:

-Heavy panting which may include excessive drooling
-Skin that feels hot to touch
-Higher than usual heart rate
-dry mucous membranes, like the nose and eyes
-unsteadiness or balance trouble

Severe symptoms include:
-pale or bluish gums
-signs of disorientation or shock
-hyperventilation and muscle tremors
-listlessness or unwillingness to move or walk
-loss of bladder or bowel control
-collapse or unconsciousness

If you see any of the above signs, get your dog into a cool place right away and provide lots of water, and contact your veterinarian immediately.

The heatwave is not going anywhere, and neither are we! Because dogs cannot sweat and can only regulate their body temperature by panting, overheating and dehydration is a bigger risk for them than it is for us. Come in and check out our selection of cooling vests and mats directly opposite our dog toy wall!
