MADEMOISELLE REMINDS US TO MAKE POST-MORTEM PLANS FOR OUR ANIMAL🐾

Mademoiselle, a five-year-old cat, found herself at the Montreal SPCA after her human died. A relative of the deceased brought her to us, hoping she’d find a new home. Mademoiselle has since been waiting for several weeks now for her second chance...

PLAN TO ENSURE YOUR ANIMALS’ WELL-BEING

Every week, the Montreal SPCA takes in animals who have no where to go after their humans have died. This reminds us that it’s crucial to make plans to ensure our animals’ well-being after we’re gone. When we don’t leave clear instructions, our furry companions may end up in stressful situations, such as waiting in a shelter for several months to be chosen by a new family.😔

Talk with your loved ones and designate a relative who will take in your animal or find them a new home should you pass away. Knowing that your companion will receive love, care, and attention will give you peace of mind and allow you to care for them well in the here and now. Make sure they don’t have to wait, like Mademoiselle, who only wants to find a peaceful life once again...💔

If you would like to give the beautiful Mademoiselle a second chance, come meet her at the Montreal SPCA. To find out the shelter’s opening hours, visit www.spca.com/adoption.

Something for us all to think about...who will take care of our pets should we age or become ill? What are our plans for our elderly relatives pets? Have we asked our relatives what they want for their pets? Have we as indaviduals made our plans and hopes clear?

My father in law is recently deceased. As I am beginning to realize, this causes a chain reaction with the remaining spouse – housing arrangements, travel changes, finances and of course, dealing with animals. As a vet, I have often encountered situations when a family member has to make a decisio...

When I first graduated (and that was a few years ago), we vaccinated with everything, every year. However, similar to human medicine, it became more and more apparent that yearly vaccines are not required (we went from tetanus shots once per 5 years, to once per 10 years in humans). A huge debate en...
