Lucas Legacy Fund We are here to help dogs heal from trauma and anxiety. Reach out if you have a dog in need help. Lucas has a story to tell.

He was originally found living amongst garbage in the Pinion Hills Desert in California. He was there with approximately 40 other dogs. Some were feral dogs, while others like Lucas had been abandoned. His history before that is unknown and the thought of it makes me cringe. Lucas and the other Pinion Hills Dogs were then rescued adopted out or sent to non-kill shelters by Jan Reedy. Some of the d

ogs were healthy, active dogs, while others like Lucas were completely shut down and needed dramatic rehab. When we first adopted Lucas from a shelter in Eureka, Montana, Canine-PTSD was not commonly understood by dog trainers or vets. It was difficult to navigate his special needs. We had no idea the challenges and the rewards that would be ahead of us. As such, we have set up the Lucas Legacy Fund to help dogs like Lucas and their families. Dogs who have been through severe trauma need to be trained in ways that will allow their personalities to truly shine. Lucas was a shell of a dog too terrified to eat, drink, make noise or move. By the end of his 8 years with us, he was quirky, fun, loving and enjoying life. He was the most well loved dog I have ever known. I am so glad we did not give up on him and he did not give up on us. If you need help with a dog who suffers from trauma and anxiety, please reach out to me and my group. I am not a vet or certified trainer, but through my experiences with Lucas, I have a lot of contacts that may be able to help guide you with training and other needs. For families that cannot afford anxiety meds for their dogs, I am happy to help with that too. I will work with your vet to help cover costs if possible. As we prepare to wind down the year, we are reflecting on our first year of the Lucas Legacy Fund.

Since Jan 1, 2025, we have supported several families and provided the following to the community:

⏲️2x Initial Canine Consultations (1.5 hours of support and 2 weeks follow up support)

📖12.5 hours of Private Behaviour Consulting Support with a Certified Trainer

🚶38 hours of Private Walk and Training Services with a Certified Trainer

🦮 17 x 1.5 hour Doggy adventures/dog walker

🦮4 x 1 hour Reactive Dog Group Walks

👕4 x Thundershirts

🚧1x X-Pen for a Dog with Stranger Danger

🧘 9 boxes of Calming Care Powder

🦮 1x biothane long line leash

🐕 1x baby gate for a dog with stranger danger

✍🏻 1x vet visit + anxiety meds for one dog

All of this has been paid for by generous donations by the community. Thank you everyone for your financial and recyclable donations. Every cent has literally gone to the dogs! And a big thank you to our hard working volunteers who put in their time behind the scenes.

So here at the Lucas Legacy Fund we are busy helping one dog at a time. Odin and his family are in need of help so we are here for them. If you have a dog with anxiety please reach out. I want you all to meet Odin. Thanks to your donations, he was smiling from one crooked ear to the other! He and his family needed a bit of assistance with his reactive behaviour. He is getting the help he needs. When we started the Lucas Legacy Fund, we thought we were here to help dogs suffering from anxiety and trauma, we had no idea we were actually here to help the whole family!

Our main fundraising that pays for everything is recycling. Thank you to everyone who has donated and please keep them coming. Our recycle bin is located in downtown Kimberley at 65 Boundary Street.
