Today is World Blood Donor Day..
Did you know that dogs can be donors too??? Much like humans, there is an animal blood bank which can be available to emergency hospitals in cases where they require it.

Blood Donor DOG Criteria:
Between 1-8 years of Age (18 months for giant breeds) to Enter the Program
Over 55 lbs (25kg)
Up to Date on Vaccinations or Titres
Even-tempered
In Good Health
On Heartworm and Tick Preventative Medication (Strongly Recommended)

Mr. Stanley is here with our next summer time tip.

Did you know that double coated dogs like Stanley should NOT be shaved in the summer time to keep them cool. Infact this is the perfect way to have them overheat.
Double coated dogs have a coat that is perfectly designed to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Did you know frequent grooming to remove loose undercoat, clipping the hair from paw pads and providing access to cool water are all great ways to ensure your double coated dog stays cool this summer.

Next Summer time fun safety fact is from Finn.

Water and swimming can be a lot of fun for dogs but safety is important. Your dog should never be left unattended near bodies of water. When out on a boat your furry companion should always be wearing a life jacket. Swimming can also be tiring, frequent breaks should be offered.

Dude wanted to start June off right with a summer safety tip for everyone.

Walking our dogs on the hot pavement can really hurt their feet. During the summer the pavement heats up really fast. If you can keep your bare hand on the pavement for 10 seconds without it being too hot, they cant walk on it. To avoid this walking first thing in the morning or after the sun goes down can allow the pavement not to be too hot for them..
