Since we are basically in a white out snow storm, let me give you something to look forward to! We are opening sign up for our 2023 Bouquet Subscriptions this week (Wednesday at 10am). 🌸Dahlias 🌸
I’ve been getting lots of questions about dahlia digging, so I thought I would break down our process. Keeping in mind it took me 7 years of trial and lots of errors to come ok with a system that works for ours in our climate and our storage system. So first we cut them all back and leave them in the ground for at least a week so that their eyes start to form. Then we dig up the clumps and wash all dirt off with the hose. We then divide them right away, making sure each tuber has a viable eye. We let them cure and dry for a day and then they are packed into plastic totes in vermiculite. We put the lids on and they are stored in our walk in cooler that is left running at 5 degrees all winter. We had almost 100% storage success with this method last year which is huge. In the past we would have maybe 50%. Leave any questions below and I’ll do my best to answer! 🌸

🎄Wreath Workshops are open for sign up!!! 🎄 Come join us for an evening or afternoon of festive fun. We will provide all the materials needed to make your own beautiful wreath for the holidays. Everything we use is locally sourced, including the wreath form. There are 4 dates available, go to our website to have a look. It’s been 3 years since we have hosted workshops and I’m so excited to be back at it!

We got a touch of frost at the farm last night which will make cutting it all back a lot easier this week. Each step that we take at the farm is done with care and intention. In the fall we tuck all our bulbs in then ground, dig up divide the dahlias, amend the soil so it’s ready in the spring, and tidy up as much debris as we can that might attract rodents. It’s definitely not as exciting as planting the flowers or harvesting, but it’s just as important.

🎄Week 2: You get a beautiful Norfolk Pine in a lovely basket. These are easy to care for indoor plants that are not only lovely around the holidays, but all year round.
🎄Week 3: You get a lush and full table centrepiece in a pretty ceramic container. We use fresh greenery, berries and cones that will last well beyond the holidays.

Pick up will be Fridays in December from the flower shop. If delivery is needed, that can always be arranged.
