WELCOME HOME JACK!!!

Almost 2 weeks after Jack accidentally got out the front door he is home.
Jacks mom and Roommate reached out to me the very next day and quickly had LARGE NEON SIGNAGE up and were knocking on doors to search properties and handing out flyers. 2 cameras and traps were as well put out and many sightings of black kitties were reported to his mom. Unfortunately 2 other neighborhood black kitties gave false sightings but Jacks mom never stopped. She chummed the yard frequently, searched daily, and watched cameras diligently. It wasn’t until her second round of door knocking that she realized that there was a secondary unit at a home across the street and about 3 homes away.
This was the ticket to getting Jack home as he had been hiding out in the neighbours furniture.
This is a great example of how you just haven’t talked with the right person or knocked on the right door yet as just doing one round and packing it in because “they must have been taken by a coyote” is simply not the case. (PS- the stats of kitties taken by coyotes it MUCH lower than everyone thinks it is)
Keep positive and keep trying and do all the things consistently because your kitty is depending on you to find them. 🐾
Welcome home Jack 😻

Do I have any followers on my page in Vernon that if a sighting of this kitty came up at Silver Star could help over the next couple weeks? I have been helping this owner in her missing sweet Jade and if there is a sighting I am away until end of April and I could possibly need some help from my community here. Would be trap and camera placement when we get a sighting 🙏🐾

People always ask me what to do when they lose their kitty
THE NUMBER 1 THING IS LARGE NEON SIGNAGE

If you poster looks like the one on the right STOP WASTING YOUR TIME. This is NOT effective. If your sign is not on large neon poster paper no one is going to see it. You can use that flyer, put it in protected plastic page, and put it on the neon signage, but that alone is not going to work

You can however use that flyer (and yes the one on the right is a flyer not a poster) to hand out to people personally, leave at peoples homes for their fridge, or put up at local stores but NOT on lighting/telephone poles.

Unless ur poster looks like the one on the left its not going to get noticed

WHAT TO DO (AND NOT TO DO) WHEN YOUR CAT GOES MISSING 🐾

Losing a cat is terrifying, but understanding their behaviour can make ALL the difference in bringing them home safely.

Most people search the wrong way… here’s what actually works 👇

✅ WHAT TO DO

🔍 Search CLOSE to home
🌙 Search at NIGHT with a torch
🕵️‍♀️ Do a thorough, physical search
Check EVERY hiding spot:
• Under houses, decks & cars
• Inside garages & sheds
• Bushes, drains, roofs
• Even tiny gaps
🚪Check your home again (and again!)
🤝 Speak to neighbours directly
Don’t just leave flyers – ask permission to search their properties yourself.

Cats often hide silently for days (even 1–2 weeks) before moving.

❌ WHAT NOT TO DO

📣 Don’t rely on calling their name
A scared cat will NOT respond – even to you. Silence is their survival instinct.
📍 Don’t assume they’ve gone far
🏢 Don’t rely on shelters to find them
Only a very small percentage of lost cats end up there.
⏱️ Don’t give up too soon

💡 REMEMBER:
Your cat isn’t “lost” in the way we think… they are usually hiding, scared, and waiting for the right moment.

🐾 Stay hopeful. Stay consistent. Don’t stop searching.

Looking for a dog in the Kelowna area to train to find Lost Cats. Do you know anyone?

Looking for a dog in the Kelowna area to train to find Lost Cats. Do you know anyone?

I have an ask that I’d like to share with this group.
For some time now, I have been trying to make a connection within my immediate family and friends circle, with no luck, and I’d now like to extend that outreach here. I am seeking a dog that could be trained to assist in locating lost kitties, and I’m hoping this group may present an opportunity or spark ideas I haven’t yet explored.
A little about me: I have been involved in animal rescue for many years, and through that work I’ve consistently seen a significant gap in support for people searching for lost pets. Last year, I completed an 8-week course (approximately 30 hours) focused on best practices for lost pet recovery and lost pet behavior. Since then, I’ve actively helped reunite people with their pets. The next step in expanding this work would be to train a dog specifically to assist in locating lost cats.
I currently have two elderly dogs who are not candidates for this type of work, and I am not in a position to add another dog permanently to my household. However, I would truly love to be able to offer this much-needed service to our community.
What I’m looking for in a dog:
5 years old or younger (due to the time and training investment)
Food motivated
Genuinely excited by cats — not prey-driven or aggressive, but visibly thrilled (tail wagging, excited whining or barking) when seeing or finding a kitty
No specific breed requirements; successful candidates can range from small to large breeds
(Short/stumped snout breeds such as French Bulldogs would not be suitable)
There is a simple assessment I would conduct with the dog, which would be recorded and submitted to professional trainers to confirm suitability for the program.
Logistics:
Preference (but not a requirement) for the dog to live in the Downtown Kelowna area, as training will take place multiple times per week over approximately 10 weeks, and I live downtown
I am aiming to begin training in June, which is why I’m reaching out now — I’d want to build a relationship with both the dog and their family well in advance and address any questions or concerns together
The dog would need to remain local and not travel with their family from June through mid-August 2026, as this is the training period
I want to be transparent that this would be a volunteer/donation-based service. I am not seeking a partnership with financial expectations; rather, I’m looking for someone whose heart aligns with the mission of helping missing cats find their way home.
Why cats and not dogs?
Cat tracking requires a significantly shorter training timeline, making it the most practical and effective place to begin.
A small but important request:
Please do not share this post to other pages (such as lost animal groups). I’d like to keep this ask within a relatively small, aligned community. If you’re seeing this, it’s because your heart is already in line with the purpose. That said, if you have a direct friend or family member who you believe may be interested, please feel free to share this with them and have them reach out to me directly.
Perhaps you know someone with a dog that already has some scent training, or a young, busy family whose dog could benefit from additional enrichment and exercise — this could be a wonderful win-win.
If you’re interested or have ideas, please feel free to DM me.
