Just like us, bugs need hydration during severe summer heatwaves, but deep water bowls can actually be dangerous for tiny insects to drink from.

How to make a safe Insect Watering Station:

Take a shallow dish or pie pan.

Fill it with marbles, pebbles, or flat stones.

Add just enough water so the tops of the stones stay dry.

This gives bees, butterflies, and beetles a safe place to land and sip without the risk of drowning!

While most critters head for the shade when the sun is at its peak, this amazing ant comes out to forage in temperatures up to 122°F (50°C)!

How do they do it?

They are covered in unique, triangular silver hairs that act like a mirror, reflecting away visible and near-infrared sunlight.

🌡️ How do bees stay cool? They build their own AC! 🐝💨

When the summer heat cranks up, honeybees don't just sit there and sweat (mostly because they can't!). Instead, they team up to cool down the hive using a couple of brilliant engineering tricks:

Water Cooling: Worker bees will collect water droplets, bring them back, and spread them around the hive.

Active Fanning: Bees will line up at the entrance and vigorously flap their wings to circulate air, evaporating the water and dropping the hive's temperature!

Did you know these amazing things about the humble mealworm? They're more than just feeder insects!

* **Plastic-Eating Superstars!** 🤯 Certain mealworms (the larvae of the darkling beetle) have been shown to eat and digest polystyrene (Styrofoam) and other plastics\! They could be tiny heroes in the fight against plastic pollution.
* **A "Worm" That Isn't a Worm!** 🧐 Despite their name, mealworms are not actually worms. They are the **larval stage** of the darkling beetle (*Tenebrio molitor*).
* **Survival Experts!** 💪 Mealworms can live for up to several years in their larval form before they are ready to pupate and turn into a beetle. They're built to last!
* **Protein Powerhouse!** 🍽️ They are a highly nutritious food source, packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals, making them excellent feed for reptiles, birds, fish, and even for future human consumption!
