It's been 4–5 years since Kickass has run blinds, and while there were definitely a few mistakes, you can see she defaulted back to her training as soon as she hit the field.

This is truly a testament to why it's so important to build the foundation correctly the first time. Good training doesn't just disappear because it hasn't been practiced for a while. When the behaviours are truly understood and properly reinforced, they're still there years later.

If I was planning to put an IGP3 on her, every one of those mistakes could be cleaned up in a handful of training sessions. But the old lady is 11 years old now and retired, this was just a bit of fun between working with clients.

Not bad for a dog that hasn't seen a blind in half a decade!

A few days ago, we posted a reel explaining that anxiety is a learned behaviour and if certain behaviours can be taught , they can also be changed by adjusting our habits, expectations, and relationship with our pets.

Let's just say that this didn't sit well with everyone. And I get it, It's uncomfortable to hear that some of the things we do out of love and concern for our dogs may actually be maintaining the very behaviours we're trying to fix.

But just becuause I understand it, it doesn't make it OK. The comment section filled with  opinions, theories, "shoulds" and insults from people unwilling (or maybe just incapable) of showing proof to support their beliefs. But we don't deal in hypothetical, we are results based trainers. That's what people pay us for.

So instead of arguing in the comments, we'd rather show you the dog that inspired the original reel.

She has since been weaned off her medication from the first clip and has been receiving consistent, structured training every day.

The result is a dog who is more confident, more engaged with her environment, and showing a dramatic reduction in the anxious behaviours that once controlled her life.

You can debate the philosophy all day long but we'd rather let the transformation speak for itself.

7 year old Khali came to us 4 weeks ago for Dog Reactivity, obedience training for leash etiquette/recall/overexcitement etc, and probably one of the most extreme cases of prey aggression towards small animal I've seen in a long time.

We can't undo 7 years of behaviour in a snap of the fingers, but we can set the stage for long term success with our highly effective Board and Train Programs.

To thank our community for voting us as the #1 trainers in the county, we are offering 10% off all of our board and train programs until June 19th, 2026!

Chemically Dulling Your Dog is NOT Rehabilitation

Handing out anxiety meds as the first line of defence for every struggling dog is not behaviour modification.

Too often, owners are told their dog is “anxious,” sent home with medication and a hope that symptoms fade (and when it doesn't, they just double the dose).

Meanwhile, the underlying issue is usually poor coping skills, lack of boundaries, learned behaviour, environmental conflict, or chronic overarousal.

Pills don’t teach neutrality. Pills don’t build confidence. Pills don’t create clarity. Pills don’t replace training.

The goal shouldn’t be suppressing behaviour so it’s easier for humans to tolerate.

The goal should be helping the dog function better in the real world and medication isn't needed to achieve that.

Success looks different depending on the dog and the handler.

Ronin isn’t a genetically gifted protection dog, and as a middle-aged rescue, he started this game later than most. But what he does have is heart, and a handler willing to do the work.

So how did Sylwia and Ronin earn a title while some teams spin their wheels for years?

Simple.

The people who stall stop showing up when progress gets slow. They let excuses replace consistency. They ask for coaching, then ignore the plan. They bounce from method to method, comparing their journey to everyone else’s.

Success usually isn’t flashy.

It’s showing up.
Doing the boring reps.
Taking feedback without ego.
Staying consistent when progress feels frustratingly slow.

A great dog with a poor handler won’t go very far.

But an average dog with a committed handler? That team can go a lot further than most people think.
