A lot of people ask me what gives me the most satisfaction when I train a dog. For me, the biggest reward is when I work with dogs that are aggressive or fearful-aggressive, and slowly we start to build a connection.
This here is Lola. When she first came, they wanted to keep the muzzle on her, and I said, “Don’t worry, I will take my time.” She is a very aggressive dog, and it’s important to understand the limits — not to force, not to trigger her to bite.
Most of the time, humans think touching is the way to make a dog comfortable. But touch only comes after the dog feels safe around you. If I had walked straight toward Lola in this video and tried to touch her, she would have bitten me, and it would have taken much longer to build trust and connection.
The video I posted today, where she is against the wall barking, was from her first days at the facility. Actually, on the first day, I couldn’t even get inside the room. That video was from day two.
Now watch the next video above — that is day seven. You will see the transformation and how patience, respect, and understanding can completely change a dog.
