Macy + Taya have joined the Athabasca Gymkhana this winter with their two ponies, Ginger & Pepper who we have had since they were born! Ginger will be 29 this year (!!), Pepper will be 19 .. and boy did those two have some pep in their step last night! So fun watching these girls and their two favorite horses

Record breaking snowfall in these parts ... and we aren't really sad about it. Hoping it makes the grass grow faster than these guys can eat it!

While the boys would prefer to stand at their bale and never move when the temps dip below zero around here, we do take them for a nice walk across the quarter to their pasture where they can forage for the day ... or just stand around and annoy one another. All the mares live down the road at the Dirks Farm, and Rowdy Ranch houses all the geldings and stallions who all live together in harmony in a nice big herd!

Slowly the herd is coming home for the winter ... and while it always feels like a lot of horses kickin around the yard, it sure is nice to have them all in one spot. The four studs are all back together and everyone sorted out their lives about who is still the boss and who isn't ;)

Then winter came in what felt like three minutes.

What an addition these two have been to Rowdy Ranch. Since spring, we have had our nephew Grady Quam & his gf Madison Wilkerson living here at the ranch. In between travelling along the pro rodeo trail & both qualifying for the CFR .. we have had Grady riding our two year old stallions and will continue training on a couple of rope horses this winter -- and I'm sure they'll be making their way around some barrels ;) MANY hours spent in the arena & down the trails, and of course our home was always filled with laughs, card games, good food & lots of good meetings.

They packed up their trailers, horses, and Jovie (our favorite pup) and are heading southbound to Arizona for the winter. We will miss you three .. but look forward to the 2026 season to do it all over again.

It was the weekend to be thankful and this little mare on the far left is getting her appreciation post today. Since owning her, she has not only been one of my riding horses, she has given us these three BEAUTIFUL foals and sadly, her baby making career has come to an end due to some very complicated health issues. Cheyanne's legacy will continue on with the filly & stud we have decided to keep and we know that her qualities will shine through for years to come.

The arena here at Rowdy Ranch has been put to great use all season long. We are excited to watch this duo’s first debut at the CFR next week!

Madison Wilkerson has qualified for her first Canadian Finals Rodeo, pocketing $33,615.26 after entering 45 rodeos, placing at fourteen, and winning two. Read more->

Our two nieces & their friend rode over to play in the arena the other day. Macy (the youngest in the photos), has been diligently working on rebuilding her confidence after a few spills over the years and the old 28 year old princess, Ginger has been doing a heck of a job making her feel like a real cowgirl again! Ging has been with us for her entire life and has been the same trusting, kind and smart horse since the first time we threw a saddle on and chased the cows home! Although in her old age, she's on daily meds for cushings - we are so thankful she's sound and is still making our little girl Macy smile from ear to ear!

Joe (REVOLUTIONARY JOE) was ready for his big debut under saddle, and we had a hunch he would be a real good boy about it ... Not much more you could ask for in a two year old stud! "Get aboard lady ... and while you're at it, take photos while you're up there!" We love our little Joe.

We are so excited to watch this studs journey unfolds here at Rowdy Ranch.
