Dharma Farm Horse/animal rescue offering programs that help people break through barriers to live their best life

Dharma Farm (formerly Sadie’s Place) is volunteer-run Charity that rescues unwanted, abused and neglected animals. The animals in turn, help empower Island youth to break through barriers that can prevent them from living their best life. Facilitator-guided activities with horses, help participants build confidence, practice life skills, better understand their own feelings/emotions and to make he

althy, informed choices that contribute to a brighter future. We rely entirely on donations and fundraising to care for our rescue animals and offer programs and services.

Ok PEI horse folks - these two horses have reportedly been taken and ‘dumped’ somewhere - possibly the western end of the Island by a previous owner who has a grudge (and tried unsuccessfully to have the horses destroyed to inflict emotional suffering on the woman who has been caring for the animals). Can people please keep their eyes peeled for new ‘bodies’. It’s entirely possible they went to the feed lot outside of O’Leary - in which case we all know where they will end up. Hoping our horse loving islanders will be able to spot this guys and message Kristi so a rescue / retrieval plan can begin!!! Spirit's Whisper Ranch.

‼️🐴🙏🏻‼️Our SWR Herd Family is asking for the help of all horse lovers who see this, to help us locate Miles & Torque and return them home safe!‼️🐴🙏🏻‼️

Miles & Torque were abandoned into the care and expense of our SWR facility for 14 months by their previous owner, Judy Zagorodny.

Judy (a former neighbour from ON) was invited into my home (on site at our ranch) to stay temporarily in an offer of kindness and support, after she falsly presented herself as a victim from the divorce she was in.

After staying for 14 months Judy had to be served an eviction notice to move because she was abusing the temporary stay offer gifted to her. When first asked to move, Judy stated that she “had rights” and had “no intention of leaving”.

At the same time Judy exhibited escallating ignorant and rude behaviour and comments toward my parents visitng me, neighbours, facility clients and myself in my own home. Additionally, Judy verbally threatened that she would call the police and make false accusations that my mid 80year old parents assaulted/threatened/harassed her.

On arrival, Miles & Torque fit in beautifully with our herd family. Additionally, both horses dove into the therapy and wellness work our facility offers, developing strong connections and bonds with our clients, especially a great love of the youth we work with.

I offered a forever loving home for Miles & Torque to Judy, that she verbally agreed to. Judy did not want the horses and had no plans to move them with her.

After having to issue Judy the eviction notice and navigate her lies, manipulations and threats, Judy proved herself a most spiteful and revenge driven individual when she then attempted to have local dead stock services attend our facility to kill Miles & Torque on site. After being told no, because they do not kill healthy horses, Judy harassed them with over 15 phone calls trying to get them to “change their minds”.

Judy then removed Miles & Torque without permission from our facility on September 16, 2025, discarding them at a location within an hour and a half from our facility.

Please help us locate Miles & Torque and bring them home safe to their herd family, facility staff, and clients, who ALL miss them both very much!

We pray that the individual who bought them/took them in, or someone who knows where they, will see this notice and please reach out to us.

I do not like having to post personal information/situations publicly, but truth is truth, and I will always stand in the light of truth, and stand up for every member of our Herd Family.

We are happy to reimburse any purchase fees or expenses incurred for Miles & Torque to who has them.

Hey folks! With our trainer out on Maternity leave (due any day!) we have decided to put Bailey on the adoption list before her under saddle training is complete! This means if someone is interested in Bailey for a riding horse they will need the background/experience and or assistance in horse training. Bailey is the sweetest mare, who desires to please and connect with people but she had a bad start with some forceful 'breaking' techniques so she needs someone who is calm and patient and who prioritizes her needs as part of their training ritual. She is as healthy as they come, with four solid feet (no shoes) and no vices. She is lovely and kind - no dirt at all in this girl ... she's enjoying life as a pasture pet but at 14 yrs old (15 hh) and in perfect health she has so much more to offer and deserves to find her forever family. Her adoption fee is $500 to reflect the need for more training if she is to be a riding horse ... For those interested please send an EMAIL outlining your FULL background with horses/training and/or any resources (coaches/trainers) you plan to use as well as a FULL description of your farm (location, stalls, doors, windows, sheds, pastures, paddocks, fencing, water sources etc - pictures as well would be great!) to [email protected]

We have several horses available for adoption - and more coming so we need to make space! Please check the listing below on this page, as some adoption fees have been reduced. We also currently have another lovely mare, 12 yrs old, approx. draft/light horse cross, currently in training (arrived last year completely untrained). She is sweet and kind - and we hope to have her under saddle in the coming weeks .... so stay tuned for more info on Bailey as training progresses. Experienced riders/trainers welcome to inquire!

Thanks so much to those who have inquired about adopting a horse. Please note - to expedite the process we require SCREENING questions to help us provide the best match for you and our horses. Please submit answers (and photos) to [email protected] - alternatively you can use our Google Docs form pinned at the top of our page - but please send me a message as I do not get notifications when a form has been filled out. Thank you for your patience - this is a volunteer position and I am doing my best to get back to everyone as soon as I can!

UPDATE: We've got more horses needing rescue/rehab so we've got to make room. We are lowering our adoption fee for our beautiful boy Ben to $1800 for a limited time (he is currently back in training) to an approved home. For an experienced rider/trainer, the sky is the limit for this guy - dressage horse, hunter/jumper, perhaps even western pleasure - videos in the comments ... DETAILS: Ben is a stunning, jet black, Reg'd Appendix gelding, 16 hh and 20 years young (no signs of age on this guy). Ben started his life on the Quarter Horse racing circuit and was quickly converted to a barrel racing horse and unfortunately experienced some rough training/equipment/humans in his early years on the rodeo circuit that caused him a lot of anxiety - he bounced around a lot (16 owners in his first 17 years of life), but latter half of his life he's been exposed to better experiences and a gentler way of life. Ben has been ridden English for the last number of years and is a total gentleman in and out of the barn (handled easily by kids, no vices no health issue) but is not a beginner riding horse - he carries a lot of tension under saddle and requires an experienced rider to help him work through it. Ben is a very athletic horse and is available for adoption to an experienced rider only. He is NOT available to homes that are looking for a western games type horse or penning. Ben has been enjoying some down for the last year (due to no fault of his own) and he is now back in regular training.
We do everything we can to ensure we match the right horse with the right family (and vice versa) so if interested, please send an EMAIL to [email protected] with details, including:
Name, address, contact info, age (if under 18), what you are looking for (what type of horse are you looking for and what are you looking to do with your new horse - companion/pet, pleasure/trail riding, dressage, endurance etc); your experience/background as it relates to horses/animal care and a FULL description of your farm set up including barns, stalls, run ins, paddocks/pastures, fencing type, water source(s), other horses/animals owned or on the property, feed/hay type/routine etc. Pictures are required before adoptions are finalized.

Fonzie and Cher are a senior 'couple' - perfect for trail riding and/or driving. Fonzie and Cher are both draft/pony crosses, standing 14.3 and 15 hh respectively. Fonzie is 29 and Cher is 24 and these horses are the picture of health - solid legs, feet, lungs ... no issues and with many great years ahead of them. These horses came from a loving home where the owner was no longer able to care for them - they had spent their lives both driven and trail ridden (have been in parades, etc) ... these horses are unflappable - no spook, easy rides - Fonzie would easily pack a child along on the trails behind a parent who is on Cher .... these are two amazing animals. I would like to see them stay together. They is available for an adoption fee of $2600 (for the pair). May consider separately to the perfect homes (with other horses for companionship), $800 for Fonzie and $2000 for Cher.

Horse #1 is FIONA. Fiona is a senior gal - rescued from the slaughter pipeline in Pennsylvania in 2022 (right before Hurricane Fiona). She was reported to be 18 when we rescued her - but I'd put her closer to mid to late 20s ... we suspect she spent her career as an Amish buggy horse (she's dainty and maybe 14.2 ish) ... she took a saddle with ease when she arrived and she is as sweet as they come but ready for an easy life as a companion/pet, EAL horse or leading the grandchildren around on (may require shoes for hard/rocky ground). Fiona is available an adoption fee of $250. This is a special girl seeking a special home.

UPDATE! Joe (aka Same Old Story) is on his way to PEI thanks to New Start Standardbreds- Maritimes Community and some amazing donors who assisted with his bail from a kill pen in Oklahoma and transportation costs. Joe has some injuries and ailments that need tending but he's already looking much better after a few weeks of groceries and TLC. Joe is also an important reminder that selling retired racehorses to Amish communities only defers their path to the slaughter pipeline (and means years of toil and suffering until they outlive their usefulness). These horses do everything that is asked of them - and they deserve a better fate. We must call on the racehorse industries to implement programs/services/incentives that provide rehoming and/or retirements for horses once their careers have ended.
