"I can’t say enough good things about Humboldt Vet Clinic and especially, Dr. Kim. My dog Olive has been in a couple accidents that have needed urgent care. The staff got us in quickly and treated us with so much kindness. Dr. Kim was incredibly caring, thorough, and gentle with Olive — she explained everything clearly, reassured me when I was worried, and made sure Olive was comfortable every step of the way.

Did you know 83% of cats visit the vet before their 1st birthday—but over 50% don’t return until they become sick or have pain? Its important to maintain your cats’ health through routine checkups and vaccinations. Regular vet visits for preventative care can help detect early diseases and conditions that could be corrected or controlled before it gets too serious. Most cats don't love a car ride like our canine friends, so there are some helpful tricks to make the process a bit smoother, like giving them some of the calming chew treats we carry here at the clinic to manage stress, as well as having a cat carrier that opens from the top.

With our flower beds finally in gorgeous full bloom, its a good time for a reminder about one common plant most of us have in our gardens or are often in bouquets. Both of the true lily plants, Lilium sp. and Hemerocallis sp., can result in acute kidney injury or toxicosis in cats and can be fatal if left untreated. True lilies include Easter lilies, tiger lilies, Asian lilies, stargazer lilies, daylilies and lily hybrids.
Even a small interaction with one of these lily plants — a lick of pollen, a bite of a leaf or a drink of water from the vase — can have catastrophic consequences for cats. Signs to watch for are stomach upset (diarrhea, vomiting), lethargic behavior, excessive thirst & increased urination.
Getting fast medical help is the best way to help your feline friend if you think they've sampled the greenery, so call your vet immediately for further instruction.

July is Lost Pet Prevention Month so we'd like to remind everyone that with summer activities like camping, travelling and spending more time outside, it is important to get your pets microchipped, have a well fenced area for pets to safely use and make sure leashes & collars are well fitted when out and about. Feel free to stop by the clinic for a free microchip scan to ensure your pet's information is still accurate and the chip is functioning properly!

Happy Canada Day!

06/30/2025

FYI - We will be closed tomorrow for Canada Day and back open regular hours on Wednesday.
While we think fireworks are beautiful & fantastic, our furry friends may be frightened with the noise and commotion. Please make sure your pets are on a leash for the festivities or have access to a safe & quiet place.
