Dogs and Sports Fields Don’t Mix! ⚾🐶💩😬

Soccer and baseball activities kick off May 4, and District staff are busy getting the fields ready for a safe and fun season. Recently, however, staff have been spending far too much time picking up dog waste left on the playing fields - and that’s a problem.

Picture this big‑league moment: Bottom of the 9th, game is tied 3-3, your favourite player posted up in left field. The crack of the bat - it’s a dinger! They’re tracking the ball, backpedaling, sun blazing in their eyes, glove up, crowd roaring. Eyes locked on the catch… one wrong step… slipppp. They go down hard - not on grass, not on mud - and suddenly the crowd goes quiet. The uniform’s done. The play’s dead. Heartbreak. And then all of a sudden everyone realizes this is not the kind of mess that belongs on a ballfield. Not exactly the highlight‑reel moment anyone signed up for.

That’s exactly what we’re trying to prevent.

As a reminder, sports fields are for sports - not for dogs. Dogs are not permitted on soccer or baseball fields, whether on‑leash or off‑leash. Off‑leash dogs are only allowed in designated, fenced dog parks, including one at Four Seasons Park and one at Steelhead Park.

Even when picked up, dog waste can contaminate turf and create unsafe playing conditions. Let’s keep the fields clean, safe, and ready for the season. And let's make sure the only thing anyone is sliding into is home base.
