A new group of Board & Trains have arrived πŸ₯³
Help us welcome them to the pack!

First up, "Zeus" a very handsome (and equally anxious) 5 year old Pitbull/Mastiff mix who's family have been struggling with a few issues such as leash/barrier reactivity, poor recall, extreme leash pulling and jumping up on people.

Our second introduction goes to "Stormi" a 10 month old German Shepherd who previously completed our puppy program. Now she's all grown up and ready to take her training to a whole new level. Back at home, Stormi's family have recently noticed some concerning reactive behaviour towards strange people and dogs. They experience some unwanted jumping and nipping, leash pulling, counter surfing and she is unreliable to come when called.

For now, we focus on creating clear communication methods, setting behaviour expectations, while prioritizing activities that offer dog/breed fulfillment.

Stay tuned!

- Last but certainly not least, "Macie" a 10 week old Golden Retriever, enrolled in our Lifetime Program which includes both our Puppy Program and Adult Dog Off Leash Program!

Last week we welcomed 6 year old "Tessa" into our Board & Train Program.
In her younger days, Tessa earned a Grand Champion title in the show ring, trained for obedience and scent detection.
She's quite an accomplished lady indeed! πŸ™‚
Tessa is staying with us to work on relaxation, obedience around distractions, off leash reliability, and to address her reactivity toward a few things such as when guests arrive, cars, bikes, and vacuums.

Help us welcome these new students to our Off Leash Program.

- "Rocco" is a 3 year old Lab/Great Pyrenees/Bully mix. Rocco is a fearful guy, and while very sweet with his family and people known to him, he has been displaying aggression towards new people and other dogs. He can't be trusted off leash, pulls hard while walking on the leash and is very anxious and reactive in the car.

- "Stormi" is a 6 month old German Shepherd back for round 2! After completing our puppy training, she's ready to take training to the next level πŸ’ͺ We'll be teaching loose leash walking, reliable recall, no jumping, and more!

Do you have a puppy or plan to get one?
Be proactive, not reactive. Sign up with a professional trainer right away.
The first 14 weeks of your puppies life is critical. Correctly socializing your puppy and learning how to prevent unwanted behaviours before they become habit, will save you a ton of headaches later. Pictured below is one our new puppy students, Max, a 10 week old German Shepherd/Husky mix.

"Self Handicapping" behaviour during play.

Dogs are physical creatures. Many enjoy high contact play which can look (and sound!) a bit rough and scary to their human counterpart.

Self Handicapping is one thing to look for when determining if the play is acceptable, as demonstrated by Kaos and Lucy, you can see them take turns who is on top by intentionally throwing themselves to the ground. Doing this makes a dog vulnerable to it's playmate, showing they are no threat. A display of trust.

Other things to look for during play:
- loose, relaxed body movement
- bowing down on their elbows
- wagging tails
- opened mouth
- taking short breaks from play. You may see a full body shake or an exaggerated yawn as your dog releases tension.

Have you noticed any of these signals while watching your dog play?

FAQ: Is my dog too old for training?

ANSWER: Good news, if your dog is still breathing, they are NOT too old to learn.

For example, pictured below is 7 year old "Eddie" who completed training this summer with great success. Our oldest dog ever in training was 11. You really CAN teach an old dog new tricks πŸ™‚

We'd like to take this moment and interrupt our social media hiatus to introduce and welcome this fantastic group of new students to the pack!

πŸ“Έ 1: "Reggie" a 2 year old Labradoodle, currently enrolled in our Off Leash Board & Train Program to work on his socialization skills, obedience training, loose leash walking, teach a reliable recall and address his reactive behaviour with other dogs.

πŸ“Έ 2: "Lucy" a 7 month old Aussiedoodle who is currently enrolled in our Private, Off Leash Training Program to learn how to walk on a loose leash, come when called reliably, conditioned relaxation, not to jump up on people, to stop barking when asked, and obedience training.

πŸ“Έ 3: "Henry" a super cute 4 month old German Shepherd/Retriever mix who's enrolled in our Private Puppy Basics Program to get his family on the right path.

πŸ“Έ 4: "Maggie" a 7 month old German Shepherd, our newest student in the Private Off Leash Program. Maggie's family needs help in a few areas, such as how to stop her excessive jumping, teaching her to walk on a loose leash, reliable obedience on and off leash, proper socialization, conditioned relaxation and to curb her reactive behaviour towards new people or dogs.

Do any of these dogs sound similar to yours?

Meet "Dublin" a 2.5 year old Soft-coated Wheaton Terrier, who is our final Board & Train introduction for September. Despite previous training at another facility, her behaviour continues to be a major source of stress in her mom's life. For example, she loves to couter surf and will steal anything she can reach (especially eye glassesπŸ™ˆ), run away and eat it. She will bark and jump excessively when people arrive, pulls on the leash during walks and she will absolutely give you a big πŸ–•πŸ–•then take off if she gets the opportunity to be off a leash. Over the next 6 weeks we'll be teaching Dublin (and mom!) about the skills and tools to succeed back at home.
