Who would like to help can donate directly to the vets office by calling Coverdale Vet Hospital 506-383-4838 or etransfer to the rescue or on the website through the zeffy account.

Are Amazon wish list has been updated also with items we are in need of.

Cage liners and hay bags are very much needed at this time these can be purchased through Critter Paws Cozies.

Thank you all so much for all your help without your support is cant do what I do.

Important Notice: Temporary Adoption Pause

From December 1st to January 3rd, our rescue will be closed for all adoptions.

As much as we love seeing our animals find their forever homes, the holiday season is not the right time to bring a new pet into most households. Pets are living beings — not gifts, not surprises, and not last-minute holiday additions. They deserve calm, thoughtful introductions and families who are fully ready for the commitment.

During this time, we will continue providing daily care to the animals already in our rescue, and we’ll still be available for emergency intakes and essential communication. Regular adoption services will resume on January 4th.

Thank you for understanding, respecting our animals, and supporting responsible adoption

As the Christmas season approaches, I feel compelled to remind everyone that pets are not Christmas gifts, but rather a long-term commitment. Please refrain from gifting pets to children unless you are prepared to assume responsibility for their care when the initial novelty wears off and they no longer wish to tend to them. It is essential to recognize that, much like a baby, a pet is a permanent responsibility and cannot be discarded when it becomes inconvenient.

So please prepare for a 5-7 yr commitment.

Today marks the 7th yr anniversary of the rescue.

Here's part of the story of how the rescue came to be. I took in two additional Guinea pigs that were posted on Kijiji. The previous owners had acquired them for their granddaughter at Easter, but unfortunately, she showed no interest in them. Upon meeting the owner, she mentioned that the animals' fur was slightly knotted. Furthermore, she expressed her discomfort around small animals and hesitated to handle them. She also mentioned that her daughter would bathe and play with them occasionally, but due to her busy schedule with two jobs, she hadn't been able to visit them recently. The owner also stated that the Guinea pigs came with their original cage. Unfortunately, their living conditions were deplorable, and they were being kept in a hamster cage. A more accurate description of their fur would be matted. After dedicating three hours to shaving the mats, which weighed 12 grams on one animal and 8 grams on the other, trimming their overgrown nails, and providing a bath, the Guinea pigs are now feeling significantly better. At eight months old, they are severely underweight, with one weighing less than my nine-week-old Guinea pig.Due to the lack of handling, they are fearful, but with patience and time, they will come to realize they are living a life of luxury.

Happy Friday everyone. I hope you are all looking forward to a great weekend. Today and tomorrow are the final days to support the piggy fundraiser and name the two newest boys from the PEI rescue. Every two-dollar donation provides an opportunity to enter a name. The names will be randomly selected on Sunday. Please check the pinned post at the top of the page for fundraiser details.

🐹 Guinea Pig Update 🐹

It’s been a busy week here! We’re so happy to share that four guinea pigs found their forever homes — congratulations to their new families! 💕

At the same time, six new guinea pigs have arrived, all from different homes, including two bonded pairs of boys. Due to a change in their owner’s situation, Prancer and Lily have also returned to our care. They’ll be spoiled with love while they wait for their next forever family. 🏡💖

With the cold weather now here, our new door installation will have to wait until spring, and any money raised for that project will be set aside until then.

A heartfelt thank you to Erica for her incredible donation — because of her generosity, we were able to stock up on enough pellets to last the next month. Your continued support truly helps us care for all the animals who come through our doors. ❤️

And don’t forget about our Naming Fundraiser, pinned at the top of the page! 🎉 Help us choose names for the new arrivals and support the shelter at the same time.
