Don’t underestimate a dog’s nose!

Did you know your dog can literally smell how you’re feeling? 👃🐶

Dogs have something called a vomeronasal organ - also known as Jacobson’s organ - that allows them to detect pheromones. It’s part of what makes their sense of smell so powerful, and it plays a big role in how they understand the world around them.

This means your dog might be able to sense emotional shifts, stress, fear, or even hormonal changes - before you say a word. 😮

So the next time your dog gives you extra snuggles when you’re feeling down, or reacts to you with sudden excitement or concern … it might not just be intuition. They’re picking up on something very real.

All the dogs I work with are my favourites! You love dogs, you love ‘m all. No matter what we’re working on in training, they are all ‘good puppy dogs’ as they’re all just living in a humans world. 🐾❤️

Well, I did not plan to spread this one out as much as I did in the end, but it’s actually been really great to pace and reflect on the content of this master course, apply learnings to my consults and training - and repeat! So full of knowledge and usable insights and applicable approaches to aggressive behaviours!

It is so important to think about compatibility! Does the dog - or a dog - fit into your life? Can you provide the dog with the type and level of activity that keeps them happy and healthy? Do a little research into the breed. Work with a trainer to get guidance. Dogs need their needs met as much as we do and they develop problems - just like we would - if they are in environment that stresses them out or feel like living in a jail cell.
