Are you interested in planting a "bird friendly garden" but do not know where to start? Or maybe you think that your thumb is not a green (like me). Check out Birds Canada's easy to use gardening for birds planning guide. You can select your sunlight, soil and moisture (zone 16) and it will generate all the trees, shrubs and flowers that will grow happily in your garden. When you click on the flower or shrub it will give you more details and list all the food and pollinators it attracts!

You can help birds while making your garden more beautiful and eco-friendly. Take your love of birds to the next level by creating habitat in your yard or garden that provides life-saving resources (think food, water, and shelter) for birds throughout the year.

We are planting a bird 🐦friendly native garden🌱 🌺outside the Aviary and welcome your help💪🏾 !!
Canada is home to approximately 451 bird species and billions of individual birds. Despite their numbers, the threats leading to declines in North American bird populations continue to grow. These include loss of habitat, invasive species, pesticides, toxic chemicals, pollution, cat predation, decrease in insect prey numbers, climate change, disease and death resulting from man-made obstacles like wind turbines and impact with windows of buildings during migration. As a result, nearly 15 per cent of native bird species are at risk of extinction. There is something you can do to help improve life for birds in your area.
We will be planting a native pollinator patch to attract the beneficial insects🐛, butterflies🦋 and bees🐝. We have partnered with the David Suzuki Butterflyway project (https://davidsuzuki.org/take-action/act-locally/butterflyway/) that is creating pollinator patches all across Canada. Planting native flowers are not only beautiful but attract our native insects that have co-evolved with them and will help our native birds by providing them with food.
Stay tuned for updates and before and after photos! Next step will be to remove all the invasive species and then plant!

With more people excited about birds visiting their feeders, here is a reminder about the importance of keeping them clean and to watch out for sick birds!

What do I do if I see a sick bird? Because feeders offer you an up-close view of birds, and because birds seek out easy meals when their health is compromised, you might occasionally see a sick bird at your feeder. Only veterinarians or federally licensed wildlife rehabilitators can legally treat wi...

Another great reason for loving birds!!!

It turns out, being around 14 more bird species was the equivalent to the participants earning an extra $190 a month, based on a monthly income of $1,837
