A Farewell to Our Beloved Gravy.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of the characters who became part of the heart and soul of our business.

For many years, a nondescript grey tabby tomcat lived around the edges of our property. When he first appeared, he was completely feral—wary, watchful, and determined to keep his distance. For nearly two years, he would quietly sneak in for a meal of cat food, then disappear again, always keeping just beyond our reach.

He was a sturdy, muscular boy, with the wonderfully full cheeks of an intact tomcat. Slowly, over several years, he began to trust us. First came the occasional touch. Then a little more. Eventually, he made the decision for himself that he was no longer simply a visitor.

He chose to come inside.

For years, he lived a life divided between two worlds. He would disappear outside for the summer and return when the weather turned cold, gradually spending more and more of his time indoors. Even in his final weeks, true to himself, he would still disappear outside for a few days at a time.

He lived entirely on his own terms. We never really trained him, set rules for him, or convinced him of anything. He simply decided what he wanted—and when he wanted it.

And, in the end, he decided that we were his people.

He grew old here, surrounded by the familiar places and people who had come to know him. Sadly, his health declined very quickly. Fluid was rapidly accumulating around his lungs, and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully and humanely at the vet rather than allow him to suffer.

It is difficult to say goodbye to a cat who spent so many years becoming part of our everyday lives.

He arrived as a wild, independent cat who didn’t need anyone.

Somehow, over the years, he chose us anyway.

We will miss seeing him around the property, miss his quiet presence, and miss knowing that somewhere nearby was our old grey boy, living life exactly as he pleased.

Thank you for being part of our story, old friend.

You lived your life on your own terms, and we were lucky enough to be included in it.

Rest peacefully, handsome boy. You were loved.
