It's the time of year for visiting friends and family! If you're planning to bring your dog with you for holiday visits, it's always a good idea to prepare in advance, and have a back up plan in case your dog gets overwhelmed. A reminder from Professor Hawkeye to check your dog's leashes, collars, and harnesses for wear and tear! Equipment that is frayed, cracked, or otherwise damaged poses a huge safety risk to your dog, and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Dogs In The Park is a special community where people come for puppy training and for adult dog behaviour training. Our methods are based on the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis, informed by the rich relationships we have with our own dogs. Dogs and people belong together and we believe that the best way to build a great relationship with a canine family member is through a solid, humane and sound education, so that you and your dog can do more together.
Dogs In The Park brings dogs and their owners together in new, enriching ways: our webinars provide in home dog training when it’s convenient for you, and where it’s most comfortable for your canine family member. We also provide drop-in and group sessions that go beyond toilet training dogs: dog and puppy obedience training courses, and one-on-one behavioural issue consultations.
We were founded in the early 1990s when Sue and John were in university. Initially we met in the local park system and trained as an informal club. Over the years more and more people joined our group and began paying Sue to teach what she knew about dog training. Sue sought out further education, and later credentials, to enhance what she was sharing with the students. Sue was one of the first people in Canada to earn her Certificate of Professional Dog Training, and her Certificate of Dog Behaviour Consulting. More recently, Sue has also earned her Certificate of Behaviour Consulting Canine, becoming one of the only people in Canada to hold all three industry designations. In early 2010, John joined Sue full time as our Puppy Guy and completed his own canine education, earning his Certificate of Professional Dog Training later that year.
Over the years, Sue and John have both competed in obedience, rally and agility and participated in community training demonstrations. They have also been active in the development of service dogs for people with psychiatric disabilities in Canada, having trained the very first psychiatric service dog in Canada in the 1990s.
Since 2000, over 15 local professional trainers have been mentored at Dogs in the Park and have gone on to past their Certificate of Professional Dog Training. Many of these trainers are currently working in the industry locally. We are proud to have led the way towards certification of dog trainers locally. We are proud to employ six of those trainers at Dogs in the Park!
Since 1993, thousands of dogs (and their owners) across Canada and around the world have placed their trust in our team of certified and experienced trainers. Visit us on the web at www.dogsinthepark.ca!
