Seeking Part-Time Help

Guelph Mobile Veterinary Services (Senior and Palliative Care for Pets) is seeking a part time tech / assistant for a shared position.

The position would provide variety, a slower yet steady more laid back pace than a clinic setting. Going into clients’ homes give all our calls a very personable experience and as such we tend to develop more personal connections with the owners and pets. There is a positive work culture, flexibility in scheduling, and staff are definitely appreciated (I for sure do 😉).

Number of hours a week would range from about 14 to 25 hours. A schedule would be worked out with our other 2 staff. We are flexible, and on that note, we try to keep our work culture “fun”. Remuneration is clearly above the average for good “fits”.

The position would require a candidate who can handle a variety of tasks, be able to work with a small team yet also be self directed with the ability to work independently. We definitely don’t practice micromanagement. Experience with blood draws, veterinary medications, pet diets, triage and client communication would be assets. A propensity to working with and seeing the big picture regarding efficiency, job prioritization and map reading / navigation skills are helpful for a mobile practice.

We look forward to discussing a position with you.

Spitalfields, 1902 — A Girl, a Cat, and the Quiet Power of Kindness

In 1902, photographer Horace Warner captured a fleeting moment on a worn doorstep in Spitalfields, East London. A barefoot girl, dwarfed by a dress too large, sits still—cradling a cat in her arms. Her face is calm, her eyes distant. The cat rests easily, trustingly, in her lap.

At first glance, it seems a simple street portrait. But linger, and it becomes something else—extraordinary in its quietness.

Unlike many photographers of his era, Warner was no vo**ur of hardship. A Quaker and philanthropist, he sought not to exploit poverty, but to illuminate humanity. His series, Spitalfields Nippers, documented the children of one of London’s poorest neighborhoods with dignity and empathy. He didn’t sensationalize their suffering—he revealed their grace, their courage, their tenderness.

The little girl’s name is unknown. Her story lost to time. But in this image, she gave love—in a world that gave her very little. That cat may have been her only companion, her only comfort in a life shaped by hardship.

Over a century later, this photograph still speaks. Yes, of poverty. But more enduringly—of compassion. Of the strength found in small moments, and of how, even in the bleakest circumstances, the human spirit reaches out to connect, to comfort, to care.
