Are you a snow bird? Do you travel with your dog?

Here are 5 safety tips for taking your dog along on your vacation.
1️⃣ Keep your dog in the back seat ideally in a crate. Carriers should be large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around in.
2️⃣ Make sure heads stay inside the vehicle at all times!
3️⃣ Feed your dog a small, light meal about four hours before leaving to help reduce car sickness. If you are flying, give them some water just before you board.
4️⃣ If you're driving, schedule rest stops every 2-4 hours for bathroom breaks and exercise.
5️⃣ If you are flying, ask about bringing your dog onto the plane as carry-on and keep them with you under the seat in front of you. (This is more for small dogs. Large dogs typically have to fly in cargo.)

News Years Fritters (Portzelky or Oliebollen) are a fun and delicious New Year's tradition. But did you know they are EXTREMELY dangerous for dogs? ⚠️

Raisins and currants are highly toxic to dogs. Although it is unknown why they are so toxic, eating them can cause kidney failure which is fatal.

Some of the signs to watch for include...
☠️ Weak and Lethargic
☠️ Loss of Appetite
☠️ Vomiting and Diarrhea
☠️ Dehydration
☠️ Abdominal Tenderness
☠️ Change in urination

If your dog shows any of these symptoms, or you see your dog ingest something they shouldn't, call you veterinarian immediately.

Joking aside… Letting your dog drink the water from the Christmas trees can be dangerous.

Other than the obvious danger of the tree getting knocked over, pesticides, fertilizers, and preservatives used to grow the tree can leach into the water.

Keep up it thirsty pets safe this Christmas by making sure to cover your tree stand. 🐾

GET RID OF THOSE AIR FRESHENERS!

NO, most plug ins, gels, and sprays are NOT SAFE for your dog and can be causing them harm 🐕‼️

Why?!

Most forms of air fresheners, even those marketed as “natural”, can be very toxic to dogs, and to us!

According to Dr. Mahaney, one of the main offenders in the ingredient list for most air fresheners are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). VOCs are organic chemicals that have a high v***r pressure at room temperature due to a low boiling point. This causes these compounds to easily ev***rate from a solid or liquid form into the air. This transformation is called volatility. In other words, volatility is just what air fresheners are meant to do: break down from one form and dissipate into the air, thereby changing its scent.

These substances can cause a laundry list of maladies, like asthma and cancer, and can affect the blood, brain, heart, liver, kidneys, skin, and the respiratory and nervous systems of both people and their pets.

So, how do you know if the products you use around your home are relatively safe?

A pet exposed to toxic chemicals might cough, sneeze, produce a nasal discharge, or suffer from vomiting, diarrhea,lethargy, or lack of appetite.

If in doubt - see your Vet, and switch to an air purifier hepa system or do your research on dog safe cleaning formulas you can make at home.
