Sadly yesterday was the last day Best Friends was open for grooming at the location we’ve called home since early 1997. I spent a few hours packing up our grooming equipment today , and hopefully the rest of it, boarding kennel stuff will be dismantled and most of it donated, in the next couple of weeks. Our lease was not renewed as the property owner seeks to expand their own business. The search for a new location in the south end has been challenging to say the least, but I’m working on it. I’ve been grooming on my own most of the last month( 3 of the last 4 weeks) which has left me little time but I have an agent working on my behalf as the search continues and I hope there’s a spot out there that will fit what BFPC needs , maybe for a February opening. If a location is secured, it’ll be posted here and on the voicemail greeting of our phone line. Thanks all for supporting this small business for 25 years and I hope to find a spot where you can rejoin us ASAP. Stay tuned, and again, thanks for your continued support most recently in pandemic times which we know have not been easy for most of us, especially those of us who have very small labour intensive businesses. Although they are not regular clients, we have groomed these dogs and hope they are found safe. If you see them or know someone who has please go to the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter page and post the time and location of the sighting.

Sharing this from a breeder friend in the Nipissing district. Further, I have heard very recently from a grooming client of several cases of kennel cough on her street. 5 on one street! Not sure it’s this but it’s quite possible. Please be mindful if you take your dog(s) anywhere they might have exposures. This is a virulent strain, and a lot of parallels can be drawn regarding the advice given to humans on avoiding Covid. THIS IS NOT COVID IN DOGS, but it is transmitted similarly. Avoid public areas with your dogs, especially with puppies.

We had this lovely pair of Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Chloe ( on the left) and her little brother Finn, 5 month old, in for baths and nail trims. Not a breed seen very commonly, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog , one of 4 breeds that fall under the umbrella of Swiss Mountain dog, is the largest of the 4. We look forward to seeing them again.

Just a heads up that Best Friends will be closed Thursday July 1st for the stat holiday that is Canada Day. We’ll also be closed on Fri July 2nd because Leigh needs a break! Grooming Appts are booked for the next few weeks, so if you can bear with me, once Nat returns a few days a week in 2 weeks from now, we should be able to catch up to shorten the wait time on appts. Please be patient but also enjoy Canada Day! Please don’t take your pets to events that might include fireworks. Too many pets are spooked by them and sadly some bolt and go missing as a result. Don’t let yours be one of them. Leave them home with curtains drawn to lessen any impact that might upset them.

Jacke & Ckaje ( pronounced Jack and Cage) were in for baths this morning. Big and powerfully built boys, they are super sweet with people, but not necessarily with other dogs, so I made sure they were picked up before the next dog came in. A smart groomer knows the dogs they are managing.

8 weeks of just me working alone. It’s been a challenge but with a couple of bumps in the road, we’re still standing. Thanks to all clients who have offered continued support of this small business and my efforts to keep it open. I am grateful for your patronage. As of end of business today, next available appts are the beginning of June. If you’re interested in one, call to book one. Appts requested and offered via Messenger must be confirmed with 24 hours or they will be forfeited.
