Last week was all about learning how to move through the world.
This week, the lesson was polite greetings.

Turns out saying hello politely is a little more challenging when you’re a growing Great Dane puppy with paws that seem to arrive before the rest of you.

We practiced greeting people learning to take a breath before launching upwards.
We discovered that calm can be just as rewarding as zoomies.
It wasn’t perfect, but that’s exactly the point.
Every little pause, every thoughtful choice, and successful greeting helps build the dog they’re becoming.

Watching these big personalities grow from week to week has been such a fun adventure, and I can’t wait to see where their story goes next.

If you’d like to follow their journey, keep an eye on Riley's Pups. I have a feeling these gentle giants have a ton of adventures in their future.

One of my favourite things about working with reactive and sensitive dogs is helping them built confidence and communication with their humans. Once that foundation is in place, those same dogs can become absolute rockstars in the sports world.

The dogs with challenges often have the most to gain from a job. Challenging their brain enhances their skills and gives them a new way to move through the world.

That’s why I was so excited to finally meet Tammy from Purple Dog.

We have very similar views on training, but completely different things that light us up.

My happy place is helping reactive dogs find their calm. Hers is helping dogs discover what they’re capable of through sports.

That’s a killer combination.

That means I get to help dogs find their footing… and then send them off to learn how to fly. (And in frisbee class literally!)

Thank you for the warm welcome, Tammy. I’m so excited to learn more about the sports world with my girls!

Behaviour isn’t linear.

Sometimes you’re cruising toward your goals.
Other-times it feels like someone hit the brakes and set the whole car on fire.

After two strong sessions, Maeve suddenly seemed to lose everything we’d built. So I stopped by to see what had changed.

It wasn’t the training plan.

Barking on both sides of the fence had turned her yard into a place she couldn’t relax. She was so trigger stacked that even thinking was hard.

So we changed the assignment.

Ten minutes into a new game and her body softened.

She started foraging for treats again.
The recall that went MIA, returned.

This week she’s on light duties while we help her find calm.

The answer isn’t always more training.

Sometimes the answer is helping them exhale.

When a dog finally feels safe enough to breathe, that’s often where real progress begins.

Yesterday I got to spend the morning with Grandma, Dad, and an entire herd of Great Dane puppies!

At 12 weeks old, these little giants are well past simply discovering the world. They’re learning how to move through it.

We worked on turning excitement into thoughtful choices, practicing appropriate play, and discovering that calm can be just as rewarding as zoomies. Even Grandma and Dad got in on the fun, helping teach these pups the skills they’ll carry with them for years to come.

Every experience, every interaction, and every little success helps build the foundation for confident, resilient dogs.

I can’t wait to watch these big personalities continue to grow.

If you’d like to follow their journey, or maybe you’re looking for your next adventure, be sure to follow Riley's Pups. I have a feeling this litter has lots more stories to tell. ❤️

Owning a dog can feel like living under a microscope sometimes.

The barking.
Pulling.
Jumping.
Reactivity.
The opinions from strangers… and somehow everyone has the answer.

After more than a decade in rescue and dog training, I’ve seen enough to know this:

People don’t reach out because they don’t care.
They reach out because they care so much.

Calling a trainer can be intimidating. You’re already frustrated, maybe a little embarrassed, and the last thing you need is someone telling you everything you’ve done wrong.

This is a shame-free zone.

We’re not here to hand out blame. We’re here to celebrate the wins, understand what’s getting in the way, and build new skills. For both ends of the leash.

You don’t need to have the “perfect dog.”
You don’t need to have all the answers.

You just need to be willing to learn.

And honestly? I have a lot of respect for the people who make that first call. It takes courage to ask for help.

So let’s skip the guilt, find the positives, and move forward together. ❤️🐾

I’m fairly certain butterfly rescues aren’t covered in most dog training curriculums… but maybe they should be. 🦋

Over the past month, Ash and his human have been working hard on all the important foundation skills: sit, down, stay, and loose leash walking.

What I didn’t expect was that my newest trainer would be an incredibly dedicated 12-year-old with a lesson plan of her own.

Somewhere between learning sit pretty, play dead, and checking off our training goals; we completed a butterfly rescue mission, garden tour and even a hula hoop lesson (before it became a training prop!)

She showed up every week ready to learn, ask questions and put in the work. I couldn’t be more proud of everything this young trainer accomplished with Ash.

There really is something special about watching a kid discover what they’re capable of when they learn to communicate with their dog.

Now that our month together has come to an end, I’m already looking forward to our next adventure…

Waggology has officially landed in Grande Prairie!

The dogs got the evening off while their humans got to work. We spent our first class getting to know each other, asking great questions, and building a game plan for the weeks ahead.

One of the things I love most about Waggology is that every class takes on a personality of its own. While the foundation stays the same, each group brings different goals, questions, experiences and their own magic.

This group came with some pretty enthusiastic young trainers. They asked great questions, learned about the horses with the owner of Pawsitive Kennels, and even joined the birds for a little “singing.” 🤣

That’s one of my favourite parts of teaching; watching everyone find their own place in the journey. After all, dog training isn’t just about teaching dogs. It’s about helping the humans learn, grow, and build an even better relationship with them.

I can’t wait to welcome the dogs next week and see this class come to life. 💙

✨ New Waggology dates are now open! If you’d like to join us, you’ll find the registration link below.

Before the dogs show up… we train unicorns. 🦄

My buddy Terry agreed to throw on a unicorn costume so I could demonstrate just how powerful a clicker can be. (He’s a good sport. 😂)

Watch closely.
No leash.
No pulling.
No endless commands.
Just clear communication and the science of learning in action.

Is the clicker magic? Kind of… but not really. 😉 The real magic is understanding why it works. And the best part? You don’t even have to use a clicker to use the science. At Waggology there are no training rules, just better ways to communicate.

🎉 New classes are open!
And somehow Wednesday nights are officially becoming Teen Dog Night… which I’m absolutely here for. 😎
Come learn with us.
(Unicorn costume optional.)

It’s kind of wild to think that it’s already been a year since I made Grande Prairie home. ❤️

When I packed up my life and moved north, I had no idea what this year would hold.

Looking back… Wow!

I’ve had the privilege of bottle-feeding a tiny rescue puppy, helping reactive dogs discover that the world isn’t quite so scary, teaching kids how to safely “speak dog,” and spending countless hours alongside families who were ready to achieve their goals.

Every dog has a story.

Every human does too.

I absolutely love the training, but watching people grow alongside their dogs is something so special.

One moment from this year has really stuck with me:

Before one of my group classes, everyone was gathered in the parking lot when someone stopped and asked if we were a training class.

When they learned every dog there was working through reactivity, they were shocked.

The dogs were simply… existing together.

Calm. Relaxed. Their people were chatting, laughing, and probably forgetting that not so long ago, a moment like that would have felt impossible.

Those are the moments that remind me why I do this.

Thank you Grande Prairie! For welcoming me, trusting me, and letting me celebrate so many victories alongside you. ❤️

Here’s to more adventures, wagging tails, and humans discovering just how capable they (and their dogs 😉) really are.
