Halloween is one of those evenings where a little extra preparation can make a HUGE difference for our dogs.
Between the constant doorbell/knocking, people coming and going, unfamiliar costumes, excited children and all the extra stimulation, there's a lot happening in a relatively short amount of time.
A few things I'd really encourage you to think about this evening are door management, having a designated space for your dog to decompress, and practicing some of those everyday skills before the evening rolls around. A reliable station, a comfortable crate or room, and the ability to settle away from the commotion can be incredibly helpful during such an unpredictable night.
And of course, let's not forget about those tempting Halloween treats! Chocolate, certain sweeteners and even candy wrappers can pose some pretty serious risks to our pets.
Please remember, your dog doesn't need to participate in Halloween to enjoy it. If they're uncomfortable, overwhelmed or simply not having a good time, it's okay to let them sit this one out.
A little management goes a long way, and advocating for our dogs sometimes means recognizing when less is more.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! 🎃
