From Student to One of the Crew!

Having Chad with us this summer has been awesome. From the moment he found his footing, he jumped right into the day-to-day of clinic life and quickly became one of the team. Whether it was lending a hand wherever it was needed, taking on new challenges or sharing a laugh with the staff, Chad fit right in and made a lasting impression on all of us.

We've loved watching your confidence grow and seeing everything you've learned over the past few weeks. Your positive attitude, willingness to learn and strength to work with all women didn't go unnoticed, and we're so glad you chose to spend your summer with us.

As you head back for Year 2, we wish you all the best! Keep working hard, ask lots of questions, and enjoy every step of the journey. We have no doubt you're going to do great things.

Good Luck this year, Chad! Thanks for being a part of the GVC team. We're going to miss having you around and we hope it's not goodbye, just see you later! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’š Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! ๐Ÿ’š

We're celebrating three amazing members of our team: April, Brooke and Paige!๐ŸŽ‰

Veterinary assistants are the heart of so much that happens behind the scenes. They keep our treatment room and animal care areas running smoothly, provide compassionate care to our patients, support Dr. Anderson and are always ready to jump in whenever they're needed.

โœจA special shout-out to each of our incredible assistants:

๐Ÿ„April has worked for seven years (on and off) and has become our go-to for large animal questions whenever Dr. Anderson is out of the clinic. She knows Dr. Anderson's common recommendations like the back of her hand, making her an essential resource for both our team and our clients.

๐ŸฑBrooke is always ready to step up wherever she's needed. Whether she's assisting with our large animal patients when April is away or jumping in to help reception during our busiest days. Her flexibility and willingness to help make a huge difference.

๐ŸถPaige is often working behind the scenes, so if you don't spot her around the clinic, chances are she's carefully monitoring a patient under anesthesia or giving extra TLC to our surgery patients. Her calm, attentive care helps ensure every patient has a safe and comfortable recovery.

Thank you, April, Brooke and Paige, for your dedication, compassion and hard work. We truly couldn't do what we do without you. We're so grateful to have each of you on the GVC team. ๐Ÿ’š

If one of these wonderful veterinary assistants has made a difference for you or your animals, we'd love to hear your kind words in the comments! ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŒณNot Every Emergency Is What You Think....

When a horse arrived with what looked like a stick sticking out of its hindquarters, it certainly caught everyone's attention!

After a thorough examination by Dr. Anderson, we discovered it wasn't actually a branch that had impaled the horse. It was essentially a giant splinter.

This horse has a severe allergy to fly bites and had been scratching intensely against a tree for relief. During all that scratching, a large wooden splinter became embedded through the skin.

The good new? It looked far worse than it actually was. The splinter had only penetrated the skin and missed the underlying muscles entirely. It was carefully removed, the area was cleaned and treated, and the horse is on the road to recovery!

Cases like this are a great reminder that:
๐ŸดHorses with sweat itch or severe fly bite allergies can injure themselves while trying to get relief
๐ŸชฐConsistent fly control can help prevent unexpected injuries
๐ŸชตRegularly check fences, trees and rubbing surfaces for anything that could splinter or cause trauma

Sometimes vet med isn't just about treating illness. It's about solving the unexpected mysteries animals manage to get themselves into!

๐Ÿ’กDid you know?

Adding Super-Iodide Salt alongside a balanced mineral program can help support healthy skin and hoof tissue, reducing the risk of footrot in cattle.

While no single product can prevent footrot on its own, Super-Iodide Salt is an important part of a complete prevention plan that includes:
๐ŸŸข A balanced mineral program
๐ŸŸขClean, dry footing
๐ŸŸข Good herd management
๐ŸŸข Prompt treatment of affected animals

Strong nutrition helps build strong hooves, and strong hooves help keep your herd moving.

Pick up your Super-Iodide Salt at GVC and help keep your herd on the right hoof!

This feline patient came in for a dental procedure with severe periodontal disease. Even before we began cleaning, two teeth fell out with little to no probing, highlighting just how advanced the disease had become.

The photos show what was visible above the gumline, while the dental X-rays revealed the full extent of the disease, including significant bone loss and tooth root resorption. Unfortunately, much of dental disease develops below the gumline, where it can't be seen during a routine glance at home. This is why dental X-rays are such an important part of every dental procedure.

Animals are incredibly good at hiding pain, so even those that continue eating and acting "normal" can be living with significant oral discomfort.

In the end, the damage was so extensive that every remaining tooth had to be removed. This sweet kitty went home as a gummy little lady, on a diet of canned food and most importantly without the constant pain caused by severe dental disease.

This case is a powerful reminder that what we see above the gumline is often only part of the story. Regular dental examinations and dental X-rays allow us to identify hidden disease early, provide appropriate treatment, and help keep our pets comfortable before dental disease reaches this stage.

๐ŸฆทDon't wait until dental disease becomes severe. If you've noticed bad breath, drooling, difficulty eating or it's been a while since your pet's last dental assessment, contact us to book an appointment.
