Boyfriend is here with an important reminder: it's Heartgard time! 🦟
Many people think of mosquitoes as just a summer nuisance, but they can transmit a much more serious threat: heartworm disease.
When an infected mosquito bites a dog, it can pass on microscopic heartworm larvae. Over time, these parasites mature and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, where they can cause severe damage, potentially life-threatening illness.
The good news? Heartworm disease is easy to prevent with monthly prevention given consistently throughout the season. We recommend protection from June through November, or longer if you're planning to travel south during the winter months.
🦟 One mosquito bite is all it takes.
❤️ One monthly chew can help protect them.
And while you're reaching for that monthly chew, don't forget to keep your pet's tick prevention up to date, too! Ticks are already active and ready to hitch a ride on your next outdoor adventure.
Here's to a summer full of walks, camping trips, farm visits, and backyard adventures—with a little less worry about the parasites tagging along.
Have questions about heartworm prevention or need a refill? Give us a call—we're happy to help!
