Fly season is officially upon us! 🪰 They may be small, but their bite is mighty.

With the warmer weather and increasing bug activity, our spring equine castration season has wrapped up. Castrations will resume in the fall when the flies have finally "died down" (pun absolutely intended 😉).

It's been great having Chad along this spring, and he was able to assist Dr. Anderson with several equine castrations and wolf tooth extractions. We're glad he had the opportunity to gain some hands-on experience and learn more about equine veterinary care.

Boyfriend is here with an important reminder: it's Heartgard time! 🦟

Many people think of mosquitoes as just a summer nuisance, but they can transmit a much more serious threat: heartworm disease.

When an infected mosquito bites a dog, it can pass on microscopic heartworm larvae. Over time, these parasites mature and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, where they can cause severe damage, potentially life-threatening illness.

The good news? Heartworm disease is easy to prevent with monthly prevention given consistently throughout the season. We recommend protection from June through November, or longer if you're planning to travel south during the winter months.

🦟 One mosquito bite is all it takes.
❤️ One monthly chew can help protect them.

And while you're reaching for that monthly chew, don't forget to keep your pet's tick prevention up to date, too! Ticks are already active and ready to hitch a ride on your next outdoor adventure.

Here's to a summer full of walks, camping trips, farm visits, and backyard adventures—with a little less worry about the parasites tagging along.

Have questions about heartworm prevention or need a refill? Give us a call—we're happy to help!

It’s that time again! The pesky No-See-Ums are back and seem hungrier than ever! Although their bites can be a nuisance, they pose no serious harm to your pets. With some simple precautions, you and your pets can freely enjoy the season!

These tiny biting insects are most active around dusk and are commonly found near standing water, marshy areas, compost, and damp wood. Their bites can look alarming, but they typically heal quickly and usually don’t bother dogs or require treatment.

The good news? No-See-Ums are only around for a short time each year and windy conditions often help keep them away.

If you have any concerns about your pet’s skin, bites, or irritation, please don’t hesitate to give us a call, we’re always happy to help!

☀️ Summer weather is finally here and Daisy has the right idea.

While we’re all excited to enjoy the sunshine, the heat can be much harder on our pets than we sometimes realize. Ailis's couch potato Daisy is choosing to sunbathe in the comfort of the AC today, and honestly… we support her decision. ❤️

A good rule of thumb: if you wouldn’t walk barefoot on the pavement, your pet shouldn’t have to either. Hot sidewalks and asphalt can quickly burn sensitive paw pads, even during a short walk.

As temperatures rise, remember to:
🐾 Walk during cooler morning or evening hours
🐾 Stick to shaded or grassy areas when possible
🐾 Keep plenty of fresh, cool water available
🐾 Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or lethargy
🐾 Never leave pets in parked vehicles even for a moment

Sometimes the safest place for our pets on hot days is right inside beside the fan or AC, just like Daisy. 🐶❄️

👉 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫: 𝐅𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Even if forage, hay, or pasture "looks good" (i.e., is lush, green, or high in protein/energy), it does not guarantee that all necessary minerals are present in sufficient quantities to meet animal requirements. Mineral supplementation is considered a critical, year-round component of livestock management rather than an optional one.
