Soaked hay cubes are a great way to boost your horse’s winter water intake. When the weather turns cold, many horses naturally drink less, increasing the risk of dehydration and impaction colic. By soaking hay cubes, you’re adding extra water straight into their daily feed—without them even realizing it. Warming the cubes makes them even more appealing on cold days, helping keep your horse hydrated, comfortable, and supporting healthy digestion all winter long.

At Sage Stables we do a one a day feeding for every horse. Even if they don't eat grain. In the winter its wam soaked hay cubes, ground flax and salt. It gives us an opportunity to watch your horse eat and give them a once over so we are quick to report any issues to you. Plus, they enjoy the snack!

Westly is a youngster. He loves to play. Nash does too, but doesn't know how to tell him no when hes done. Nash the big bossy always serious gelding, has turned into a kind loving leader. He won't get aggressive to make them stop. Just runs away. My yearling loves playing too, but when shes not in the mood she corrects them quickly. Sometimes I forget shes still a baby because she acts like a mare 95% of the time. Then she grabs my hat and runs away and Im reminded shes only 1.

These two are so cute together. Bossy Buggers, but super cute. ♡ Nash and Willow

Cody is so nosy, and knows the chances of me having treats in my pocket are 100%. The best part of having your own boarding facility is you get to love more horses without having to pay for more.

The Importance of Clean, Warm Water for Horses in Winter

In the winter months, providing horses with clean, warm water is essential for their health and comfort. Cold or icy water discourages drinking, which can quickly lead to dehydration and increase the risk of winter colic. Offering warm, fresh water encourages consistent intake, supports proper digestion, and helps horses maintain body temperature in cold weather. Regular cleaning of buckets and troughs prevents bacteria, algae, and debris from building up, ensuring every sip is safe and appealing.
Warm, clean water isn’t just a winter luxury — it’s a vital part of keeping horses healthy all season long.

Widget isn't a pushy horse when it comes to attention, but she does wait quietly for some love. As soon as you make eye contact she slowly starts walking towards you. She is just the sweetest.

You ever notice how horses act like toddlers at a birthday party? I put out TWO perfectly good round bales—spaced nicely, equal quality, no drama required.

And where are the horses?

ALL jammed onto the SAME bale like it’s the last piece of food on Earth.

One’s squishing the other, the other’s pretending they’re totally fine with it, 2 waiting their turn and the second bale is just sitting there like the lonely kid no one invited to play.

Horse logic 101: personal space? Never heard of it.

Both these herds have access to shelters that could fit more horses than there are. Yet they rather stand together in the snow. This is owning horaes.

🐴✨ Personal Ad: Seeking New Herd Mates! ✨🐴

Hi there!
We are Navajo & Cody, and we are friendly, easygoing equine looking to expand our social circle. We are currently living at a peaceful outdoor retirement and recreational boarding facility, and we'd love a few good buddies to share the grass, sunshine, and hay piles with.

About Me:
• Laid-back, gentle, and enjoy long walks around the pasture
• Big fan of 24/7 hay, clean water, and cozy shelter
• Appreciate a reliable routine—twice-daily check-ins and grain meals are my love language
• Excellent listener and very respectful of personal space (unless you have snacks)

Looking For:
• Kind, calm horses who enjoy herd life
• Pasture pals who like grazing, mutual grooming, and standing around looking majestic
• Any age or breed—just good vibes only!

If you’re a horse seeking a loving place to call home and a buddies like us to keep you company, come join the herd. The barn staff is top notch too. They always have treats and a lot of love to give. You will be loved up on all the time and never want.

Let’s make every day a peaceful pasture day!
