This summer heat has been a little too toasty for regular walks or being outdoors too long for anyone but some pups still require potty breaks, mini walks or a break from crate time while their families aren't home and I absolutely love filling my days visiting happy pups so will always make it out for them if you have a walk booked for even a short potty break and some indoor playtime after🐾
If you are heading out with your dog during a super hot day this summer here are some good tips :
🐾Time of Day: Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or late evening. The pavement can get super hot during the day
🐾 Pavement Check: Before you head out, touch the pavement. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws so it might be best to walk on grass if you have to head out
🐾Hydration: Bring water for your dog (and yourself) and offer it frequently.
🐾Watch for Signs of Overheating: Keep an eye out for excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or stumbling. If you notice these signs, stop immediately and find a cool place.
🐾Shorten Walks: Reduce the length of your walks. It's better to do a few short walks than one long one.
🐾Shady Routes: Stick to shady areas as much as possible. Trees can provide some relief from the sun.
🐾Sensitive Breeds: Be extra careful with breeds that have short noses and dogs with thick fur, as they are more prone to overheating.
🐾Cooling gear: Cooling gear helps dogs regulate their body temperature during walks by providing a way for heat to dissipate more effectively. Things like cooling vests and bandanas are designed to be soaked in water, which then evaporates over time, drawing heat away from the dog's body. This process helps keep them cooler than they would be otherwise, reducing the risk of overheating, especially for breeds that are more susceptible to heat stress
🐾Know When to Stop: If your dog seems uncomfortable, turn around and head home. 💗It's always better to be safe than sorry💗
