It's been a much more successful spring than fall/winter - 5 successful litters almost 12 weeks ago by Roger which will feed our family and friends and 3 more litters about a week ago by the young Chocolate Chip which produced some kits I hope might make it to the show table this fall!

Here are three wee otters from Lady Grey x Chocolate Chip - lilac, chocolate and blue. I'm really excited to see how this litter grows out. She actually has 6 kits total - but I'm most excited about the otters.

Congratulations to Benjamin on her first litter! - a fiesty group of 8 kits. So far Benjamin and babies are doing well and she's taking after her mother in terms of being a good mother!

Unfortunately it looks like Levi has once again failed to sire a litter as Lady Grey went from prepping a nest to using the nestbox as a litterbox. This makes the 12th failed attempt on his part (with 6 different does), proving that while it's not particularly common, some bucks do have fertility problems. 😒

Here's hoping that one of the two kits he did produce can carry on his genetics starting next month!

Big surprise to me yesterday - a colour gene I didn't know was hiding in my lines arrived in the first successful litter of 2025...

It appears Roger rabbit has been hiding a recessive "red" gene from us, and Mo proved she is definitely carrying it (I knew from her pedigree that it was possible). It's a shame these torts are not a recognized colour for Rex, but they are kind of cool looking!

It's been a while since I've posted, but it's been a while since I've had anything much to post - it's been a rough fall/winter so far with 4 rounds of breeding (3 does each time) only producing 2 kits. So much for breed "like rabbits" 🙄
That said these guys are now 11wks old and starting to look pretty promising as far as replacing their dad goes (if anyone wants a Ruby eyed white buck - let me know... I'm keeping the chocolate here at least for awhile !)
