Q: Do I need to break my horse into Scoot Boots to avoid rubbing?
A: YES!
If you bought yourself a new pair of hiking shoes, you would probably get blisters if you went on a long walk on the first day you used them.
We recommend you slowly break your horse into their new Scoot Boots to give your horse time to adjust. Horses have different levels of sensitivity and the boots may rub if you embark on a long ride straight away.
Do a short ride the first time your horse wears Scoot Boots.
Do not ride more than 6km (4 miles).
After your first ride, you will find that the Scoots will mould to the shape of your horse’s hoof.
Do this until you are sure that your Scoots are not chafing or rubbing. If there are no issues, gradually increase your riding distance. This will gradually condition and toughen your horse’s skin.
Every new pair of Scoot Boots comes with a complimentary pair of Trail Gaiters. We recommend using these gaiters when conditioning your horse's skin with their new Scoot Boots.
If your horse has extra sensitive skin or you are using Scoot Boots for long distance and endurance riding, you may require a pair of Endurance Gaiters.
Please contact our Sizing Team if you have any problems with rubbing.
