Have a safe and happy Canada Day! Please consider the pets in your neighbourhood before lighting fireworks. The noise can affect animals the same way thunder can, making them anxious and sometimes physically ill.

As a reminder, we will be closed for check-in and check-out on the 1st.

Heat warnings and high temperatures can lead to medical emergencies for our pets. Kathy Taylor is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in OVC's Intensive Care Unit. Today Kathy shares her top tips for keeping your dog cool on hot summer days:

☀️ Very early morning walks (consider their coat colour and how they feel in the sun). Sometimes a couple of slow, sniffy walks up and down the block will do on hot days.

☀️ Lots of cold water available - you can even add some ice if in your dog’s bowl if you are hanging out in the shade outside.

☀️ Some dogs are sun lovers but they may not always regulate themselves and move to shade when outdoors - monitoring their time in the sunlight is important.

☀️ Keep them brushed to keep their coats as light as possible and do not shave double-coated breeds - it insulates from the heat as well as the cold.

☀️ Freeze some treats like frozen celery. Ice cubes with dog-safe fruit or vegetable are a cooling treat.

☀️ There are lots of stores that are dog-friendly (a Google search will usually show this).

Can you relate to this dog?

Today is our first day back to work since our vacation and we can definitely relate! The good news is that we've got some great coffee to get us through the day!

How is your Monday going? Is it a multiple coffee kind of day for you too? Let us know in the comments!
