Buddy's Second Chance Obedience

Buddy's Second Chance Obedience We are focused on building that amazing bond between owner and dog. Praise can be something physical like a pat or a kind word.

In the dog training world, I am considered to be a Balanced Trainer which means that I use both Positive and Corrective methods to train a dog. In the beginning when teaching a new command, it is all positive reinforcement along with lots of praise from the owner. Tangible reinforcers may be giving them a yummy treat or playing with them with their favourite toy. Once a command is established, I s

tart to use fair but yet assertive correction when the dog ignores the command. The command is then repeated and praise is given once the dog has given the correct response. I also find having private one-on-one in-home sessions is best as the dog is more comfortable in his or her own environment and any problem behaviours are more likely to show their true colours.

Sorry everyone that I have not posted much lately. I have been busy with my other job and kind of putting off this post. As some of you know I have decided to go back to school to become a Vet Tech. So what does that mean for BSCO? Well sadly as of the first of August I will no longer be taking clients or pet sitting. I want to put my full attention into school and make BSCO the best it can be. This does not mean good bye just so long for now. However for now I am still taking clients for obedience or pet sitting. I am booked for May but June and July are still open.

Still some time available before Christmas break. I am also starting to look at booking in the New Year.

Exciting news we have new additions to the BSCO family. Photos and introduces will be up tomorrow.

Hello everyone, thinking of getting away this holiday season? Not sure who to leave fido with? Leave them with me as I come right into your home so no stress of having to figure out how to get fido to and from the kennel and no stress on them of having to stay in a strange place. They get the same love and attention they would if you were at home. Book now as time is filling up. You can contact me here or via email at [email protected]

I get a text yesterday afternoon from a client saying They had forgotten to pay me. Usually I would have asked about payment way before now but I knew they had been dealing with an ill family member so I did not push the issue. They come up to the house and pay me and say you will see a late fee is on there. I said it was not necessary as I knew things were not going well for them. They insisted so I reluctantly took the late fee. The reason I am sharing this is to show that most of us are not trying to rip you off. I am honestly not in this profession to make millions I want to give others the opportunity to have an amazing bond with their dog or give them a piece of mind to know someone who cares is looking after their pets when they are away.

Our first encounter with a porcupine. A lot of yelping and an evening visit to the vet. Poor Ishka is a little drunk now. I will count and post a picture of the quills in the morning and of course an update on our patient.

Today my heart is heavy. On Monday I was contacted by a client and close family friend informing me that they would be putting their lovely boy to sleep on Wednesday. To them I pass on my condolences and prayers through this hard time. To Kiefer you were one of the greatest dogs I had the opportunity of meeting calling part of my pack. Rest easy big guy. Your soul is free. I love you and will miss you greatly

I love my job. No matter if I have to stay up all night because a client is sick or lonely. Giving them extra snuggles because they miss their mommy and daddy. I worry when they refuse to eat and rejoice when I finally figure out a way to get them to eat. If someone were to come up to me tomorrow and say I have a job that pays twice as well and you only have to work 5 days a week . I would say no because I love being with these pets and giving them the best care I can while their mommy and daddy's are away. Yes some days are worse than others but I would not trade any of it.

Today I bought a muzzle for one of my dogs. Not because she is overly aggressive, but because I need to keep her safe. She came to us as an abused dog and is fearful of new situations. I walk her 10 km. onleash around Beaver/Elk lakes most days. She is always onleash and no matter what, people let their dogs rush up to her while calling out "my dog is friendly". Yes, well my dog is onleash, fearful and acts accordingly when rushed by another dog who is not on leash. People don't seem to get this simple message: If my dogs are leashed, they are feeling vulnerable as they have no where to go. It is your responsibility to keep your dog under control and not rushing my dog.
Thank you.
