Woodland Angelica has found its way into the food forest. This tall flowering plant unfortunately has photo-toxic sap. When coming into contact with the plant there is a risk of developing serious blisters and rashes when the sap activates in the sun.

In permaculture you rarely intervene in your food forest's developing ecosystem, but sometimes it's needed. As a public food forest we want our visitors to be as safe as possible. That's why we decided to remove as much Woodland Angelica as possible from the area.

We now have a whole section in the food forest dedicated to butterflies and pollinators thanks to Caitlin, a Butterflyway Ranger volunteering for the David Suzuki Foundation. Her generous donation of milkweed, asters, bergamot and vervain will give butterflies a better chance of thriving within the city!
