Jupi and Bluff got to try CKC Sprinter! They both loved it (as I figured they would) and ran super fast!

Bluff best time: 8.959
Jupi best time: 8.916

This means they ran an average of 40km/h!

CKC Sprinter is a 100 meter dash where the dogs are released at the start line and chase a lure (plastic bag) being dragged by a lure system (the same type they use in sighthound coursing). Their time is converted into points, and each title is a different amount of points required to attain it. The first title is Novice Sprinter (NS) and is 150 points! In AKC, their equivalent event is called FastCAT!

One more run each and Jupi and Bluff will have their NS titles :)

Last Friday Miso finished her 2nd SDDA Excellent title and therefore her SDDA SD-CH (Scent Detection Championship) under judge Cathy Teeft at the AlertK9 trial in Fredericton Junction!

I was so proud of Miso and how she worked with me! She Q’d her Excellent Containers and Exterior with nearly perfect scores (points deducted were my fault) and she tried reaaaallly hard in interior but I wasn’t able to support her enough to find the second hide in the first room and called it at one. Nobody in our class got the interior either!

Waylon our Aussie buddy from Newfoundland also got his SD-A-SP (Scent Detection Advanced Special - meaning he got all three components at the same trial!)

Scent detection is such a unique and fascinating sport. Learning how to read your dog’s body language and to help them during a search is an amazing experience and such a special relationship builder! Basically any dog can participate and enjoy it because scent and sniffing come so naturally to dogs.

I heavily encourage anyone to try it out! There are even online courses for those dogs who prefer to keep things low key at home. You don’t need to compete to have fun with your dog!

One of my best friends, Amber came to visit for the week and we had such a fun Aussie filled time! I met Amber back when I was living in Newfoundland and going to MUN for my BSc.

She met Lux a few times when we visited with Malka Australian Shepherds for shows, and fell in love with the breed. She now has two Aussies of her own from Kaitlin, and is officially a crazy Aussie person!

So many laughs, so many hikes and in a blink it’s already over. She’s headed back to the ferry for the long drive across Newfoundland to head home.

Counting down to CNASA Nationals until we see her again 🥰

Back at the beginning of May, Jupi got to experience lots of firsts with our club, What The Fetch Flyball! Her first warm up spot, first tournament (Thanks Flyball Agility Maritime Express (F.A.M.E.)!) and first practice starts, with one even against another dog!
She has improved loads since then and has lots more to work on, but she did so great!
She struggled with chasing the dog in the other lane for awhile, so I was super proud of my little jupi-bean 🎾💟

It was so gorgeous outside this evening! The dogs had a great time running as fast as they could and getting super muddy on a local ATV trail.

I often use ATV trails to run them off leash, and in one of the photos, you can see a dirtbike in the distance that had already gone by us!

I think it’s important to always be aware of our surroundings when using these trails. As soon as I hear any atvs/bikes, I recall the dogs right away, leash them up and we step off the trail to wait politely as they go by!

It’s how I show them respect and thanks for sharing the trails with us, how I advocate for responsible dog ownership/handling and how I create a good reputation for my program, the breed and dogs in general in our area 🥰

A few weeks back Jupi, Miso and I went to the K9 Kapers Agility fun match! They both did great and had a blast 🤩
