Let's talk about abscess! This one is a real DOOZY.

I worked on this horse at the beginning of July.

He came up dead-lame after a barrel event in June and it was first assumed that he had somehow injured himself during a run.

He was assessed by a vet, had multiple x-rays done on his leg and foot. Vet couldn't determine cause of injury or the source of pain so they recommended that my client take the horse for a $2500 MRI... 😬

My client opted for a different course of action and sent me a message instead. At that time, it was still completely unknown what the cause of the lameness was, but we both highly suspected hidden abscess being the culprit so we got started the very next day.

Alongside his poultices and foot soaks, he had his first MagnaWave and ROC red light session with me on a Thursday evening. I went back again on Friday for a session before I went away for a weekend at the lake. At some point over that weekend, this silent abscess had surfaced enough to produce 2 small holes and started a slow drain out the back and bottom of the hoof.

We did a 3rd session on Monday and I could clearly see a small flap starting to open at the heel. He was still hobbling a lot, but the severe pressure and pain had started to dissipate and he was putting a bit more weight on that foot.

4th session on Wednesday and I could see significant improvement when I arrived and the full scope of the size of this abscess was really starting to reveal itself by then. For several days this thing continued to drain.

Friday I came back for one final session. He was already full weight bearing and walking was pretty much back to normal by then.

The following week they had the farrier come out to clean things up a bit more and applied front shoes to continue supporting this foot through the healing and grow out process.

Would you look at the size of this MONSTER. I've seen some pretty big abscesses before, but I think this one takes the cake. That pocket must have been absolutely massive.

Not every story like this has a happy ending and there are never any guarantees with any modality used, but I'm thrilled for my client that we achieved such a positive result for this horse. All of that accomplished in less than a week and saved them a whole pile of money, to boot!

Hoof Abscesses 🫠 With all the moisture we have this year, these are popping up EVERYWHERE!

Even in my personal herd, my poor little fella just had the farrier find one brewing in his front right 🙁 This one was found early and is already open and draining before he went too lame, but some horses are not that lucky and sometimes they're in places that can't be easily dug out.

I personally hate the gooey wraps, and can't be bothered with trying to get my horse to hold still long enough to apply for weeks on end until the abscess blows or waste the money on the material they love to trash 🤷🏼‍♀️

Add PEMF to your first aid plan to move those evil things out faster. You can either use in conjunction with your regular poultices and foot soaks, or use MagnaWave on it's own for those wiggly horses that won't let you easily doctor their feet and apply those wraps!

I just got home today from a week spent in Louisville, Kentucky for MagnaWave's 20th Anniversary MagnaCon conference and what an awesome experience this has been! Met lots of amazing people, spent a day enjoying the beautiful animals at the zoo, spent a night at Churchill Downs watching the races from trackside and got up close and personal with some of the winners at the winners circle, had a blast at the MagnaCarlo party night dressed up in my roarin' 20s flapper dress, spent an evening with new friends for dinner and touring around some of the shops in Nulu, listened and learned from some absolutely incredible speakers (did you know that MagnaWave is endorsed by Pat Parelli?!
