I’m seeing this a lot, and honestly totally understand why so many breeders are throwing in the towel and dispersing their herds.
The cost of everything keeps rising, but people expect to purchase a registered foal for $1500.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what I do and absolutely love raising babies that people get to enjoy.. but this really is a labor of love and then people come to you and offer less then what it even costs to feed the mare for a year. The burnout is real. I pour my heart and soul into my babies and do my absolute best to set them up for a successful future, which includes making sure they are handled and used to people so that people don’t bring home a feral baby they can’t even scratch.
This is why I’ve scaled back on how many foals I have a year, simply because the cost is so high and people don’t seem to care if they have papers or the amount of work put into that foal, they just want a bargain on them.
After a lot of thought and soul searching I have decided to stop breeding, next year will be our last foal crop. We may raise one or two in the future but it will be on a much smaller scale.
That said, we will be dispersing most of our herd. If there is a mare you would be interested in adding to your family please feel free to reach out to me directly.
I have had some wonderful years producing some incredible horses but I would like to focus more on other things. I am so thankful to all of our wonderful clients over the years. I will still be sharing our keeper horses on this page along with our shows! A select few will be staying with us, including Azzy, Trinity, Sierra, Vixen and Indigo. If you are interested in any of the others please feel free to reach out by message!
