Update: the GoFundMe hosted by the TRSS PAC is now also attached to this post and in the comments.
****************
Today, we wake up to heartbreak and devastation.
These things aren’t supposed to happen. Especially not in a small, rural community in what many consider a pretty safe corner of the world.
Parents should feel safe sending their kids to school.
Kids should feel safe.
I know you’re sad, you’re angry, you’re scared. Rumours are going to fly and politics are going to drag this out. But today, please just focus on being kind.
The “who” and the “why” can wait while the investigation is underway. Right now, the only question that truly makes a difference is: How can we help?
Support the students.
Support the teachers.
Support the staff.
Support the families.
Support the first responders.
Support the community of Tumbler Ridge.
Step up where you can so the community can have the safety net it needs in order to grieve.
If you are aware of direct ways to support the community, please share them. That way maybe tomorrow—or maybe several tomorrows from now—we can wake up and begin to heal.
If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, Kids Help Phone is available 24/7 free for all ages:
