September 2nd will mark one whole year that Onyx has been in our care. While we love this boy with our whole hearts and he is showered with love by our staff and volunteers every day, 365 days in a kennel is simply no place for any animal, especially a gentle, sweet soul like Onyx.
Earlier this year, we started a GoFundMe for Onyx after we were told he would need Medial Patellar Luxation surgery. After multiple veterinary appointments, examinations, and second opinions, we learned that Onyx does not require this surgery. While this was wonderful news, it meant taking a different approach to managing his condition and keeping him comfortable.
Onyx will need to remain on glucosamine supplements to support his joints, as well as a hypoallergenic diet, which can cost up to $200 just for his food.
But perhaps the biggest change we've seen in Onyx has been in his personality. 🥹
When Onyx first arrived, he was very fearful of men and would react poorly around them. He needed patience, time, and reassurance to learn that he didn't need to be afraid. Now, after a year in our care, we're seeing more and more of the goofy love bug hiding underneath that fear.
Onyx is a total snuggle bug. He loves being tucked into bed, going for walks, getting treats, and most of all, spending time with people. We are still teaching him that men can be trusted, but we truly believe that with the right family, patience, and proper meet-and-greets, Onyx could be an amazing companion. Onyx is still waiting for his forever home—and he needs your help! He is almost 5 years old and needs to be the only pet in the home.
Onyx may need a little extra patience and understanding, but we know there is someone out there who will see what we see in him a loving, goofy, incredibly special boy who deserves a family of his own. ❤️
His adoption fee has been reduced to just $100 to help account for his ongoing dietary needs. If you think Onyx could be your boy, please email [email protected] to arrange a meet-and-greet.
