From “old & sore” mode → rebuilding from the inside out
This is Shade’s hoof journey using a laminae wedge trim . He came to us 4 years ago ready to be PTS, previous founder and arthritis riddled his body. We tried conventional trims and he was sound, but always “old & sore”… he is just “old & sore” they would say.
December 2025 → April 2026
We made a change.
This wasn’t about making the foot look pretty.
It was trying something new and giving the internal structures a chance to realign and function again. I had an inkling that things weren’t 100% with his feet.
His balances were off and nothing was where it needed to be when I dug deeper.
Instead of chasing a “normal” looking foot, we supported Shade in his own healing journey while we just maintained balance.
And with that the laminae wedge began, and so far it’s been successful.
The biggest thing people miss for this type of healing is:
👉 It takes TIME!
👉 It takes consistency!
👉 It takes a horse that’s managed as a whole!(not just trimmed)
This is rehab on a horses natural clock.
Not every case looks the same, but they are trimmed the same; to the hard soles natural balance.
And you know what, Shade is cantering around the field with our 3 year old c**t, which he hasn’t done in the 4 years we owned him… old body, long toes, arthritis and all.
I call that a win.
