My old trays, which we bought along with all of our 2’ x 3’ stackable cages a little under 5 years ago, were toast! I’ve been prolonging this purchase since last summer when I started repairing broken corners and re-riveting broken rivets. But, it was time. I ordered another 24 of the galvanized metal trays from Sunny Meadows Cages and Supplies and picked them up in June. This time around, I began the 8 hour process of priming and painting them with a rust coat oil based paint in the hopes that this might make them last a little longer. I painted for an hour a night, on the cooler/less humid days, and then waited a few weeks for the paint to dry and cure.
We finally changed them over on the last clean out, at which point I wondered what took me so long?! What a difference. They slide so much better and feel so much sturdier than the my well seasoned original trays.
It might be silly, but throwing those trays out brings back memories from setting up the newly purchased cages at our Decewsville home and moving all the bunnies to their new barn in September 2019. We are so happy to have been able to move everything back to Fisherville with us but it really makes me realize all that we have been through and accomplished in those short 5 years.
