Knock Knock! The trick is looking cute. The treat is surviving the zombie apocalypse. 🎃

I initially had grander ideas but apparently taking photos of 3 alone wasn't the easiest (Bourbon got scared of the props and Rye's attention span is still developing).

For those who’ve been along for the long ride, I’m so sorry to share that Moo passed away this weekend. She was living in Colombia with my ex, which is why you haven’t seen her in my stories.

I've been balling my eyes out...
This year has been full of loss. Mom had a special affinity for Moo and always asked about her.

Moo was a rescue who came with her name, and I couldn’t have picked a more fitting one. As my first cat, I had no idea she wasn’t quite normal. She was honestly the smartest animal I’ve ever met.

She loved travelling and exploring new houses and cabins, spending her first hour opening every drawer, door, and closet. She had a ferocious appetite, could break into sealed Amazon boxes for treats, learned to use a human toilet, and mastered tricks like sit, roll over, paw, and had a sense of humor. Her recall was excellent, provided you paid her fee. 😂

She’d sneak outside and knock on the door at 2 a.m. to be let back in, fight the racoons, slap a stranger she didn't like, and play hunting games with Bourbon. I even took her camping, but she was more interested in spying on the neighbours and sneaking into their houses than exploring the forest. Probably looking for more drawers to open and food to steal!

It’s ironic that she’s now immortalized on a pack of Orijen treats.

Moo was one of a kind, and I miss her so much. ❤️

A Love Story ❤️
(Read on)

Around the time I found out Rye would be coming into existence, some very good friends of mine decided they were going to get a puppy, too.

(10 and 14 weeks)
Through a happy little coincidence, we ended up with puppies just one month apart, sharing the same Jessica Mackey La Londe, MD bloodlines but coming from different breeders on opposite coasts. Rye is from Jayme | Red Blend Vizslas in the American West Coast, while Perry made his way over from the East Coast of Canada.

Both carry Jessica Mackey La Londe, MD lines, with Perrin and Vixen in their pedigrees. Both are healthy, cuddly, bird-crazy little Vizslas. And that’s pretty much where the similarities end.

Perry is the class clown: a clumsy loud party boy who believes mornings are best spent sleeping in

Rye is the sweet A-student, up bright and early and seemingly born to be a track champion (hurdles most likely).

Perry flew all the way from Ottawa just one month after Rye came home, and the two became fast friends. Perhaps a little too fast!

4 and 5 months
Their bond was instant, and little Perry quickly developed a rather intense obsession with Rye. If you've heard of Littermate syndrome, its real! We’ve had to be mindful about giving them time apart when his little brain gets completely overwhelmed by her existence. ❤️

Soon enough, we packed up and headed to the Canadian Rockies for a road trip together. Five Vizslas travelling as a pack attracted plenty of attention, and subtlety was never really an option.

Every Ginger in our growing pack has their own very distinct personality, and adding these two to the mix has made things even more entertaining. This picture shows it all.

One of my favourite memories is waking up at camp each morning to Perry serenading us with his extremely enthusiastic loon calls.

It’s going to be such a joy watching these two grow up together, but a bit less joyful when Rye comes into heat...🙈

Thanks Arletta, Quest & Remus | PNW Adventurer & Photographer for helping me shoot this while Rye was still itty bitty
